Who would you rather have on your 23-man WC England squad?
I think Sven is crackers for not giving Kevin Nolan a shot with these friendly warm-ups. Nolan has been pure class for Bolton this year, captaining the side, and scoring 10 from the midfield. I think he would be a perfect back up for Lampard or Gerrard in the midfield.
The reason why I pick Jenas as his opponent is I don't understand a reason why he's always included in the England squad by default. I think there are plenty of midfielders in the Premier league that are better than him at the moment. He is just one of Sven's favorites and will consistanly get a look regardless of the other English midfielders that are performing better than him (Nolan, Barton, Murphy, Reo-Coker, Parker).

I say that as an England fan and a Bolton fan.
If Jenas played for Bolton and Nolan played for Spurs we all know who'd be in the England team...

Neither deserve to be in the squad.

Jenas is useless, shouldn't even be anywhere near the squad let alone the pitch. He can't pass without giving the ball away, he certainly can't tackle or shoot either.
Nolan at least has some fight about him and knows where the goal is.

Jenas is a quality player, bags of pace, can score goals and can either get forward or cover the other centre mid. He still needs to get a lot stronger and more consistent in the midfield, but that is why he is being given caps as a player for the future. More importantly for the short term he can cover as a right mid as well.
Nolan has done well and should get a cap in the future. It's a different style of football with England at international level though.

Jenas is more skilled than Nolan.
But Nolan is ten times the worker than Jenas is.

I've said a million times before that Nolan is deceptively skillful.

Nolan's better than Jenas simple as. Nolan has consistently performed over the past few seasons, including outperforming Okocha when he was getting all the plaudits. He's consistently been one of our top scorers, passers and tacklers. However I actually think Nolan should play for the Rep of Ireland just to stuff it up the stupid England fanboys who think the likes of Jenas deserve to be called up. Jenas can have all the potential in the world but there's a lad called Kevin Nolan playing for a team outside the M25 who's doing it week in/week out. Thank ******** Sven is going soon.

Nolan should be in the squad and has had a better seaspm than Jenas and i'm a spurs fan admiting it. But we all know Sven aint the sharpest knife in the drawer he'll never pick him. Nolan better get his Irish passport sorted out.

Yeah, it's a different style, as Bolton can actually hang onto possession now and again. He might have to adjust to the 'shoot within 2 seconds or give the ball away' mentality of playing for England.
The only reason Carrick, Defoe and Jenas get picked is because they play for one of Sven's chosen teams.

it would be better if he was skillfully deceptive. or just skilled.

Jenas does not have enought to be a viable option. He is good at a number of skills, but not great at any particular one. He doesn't score enough goals, create enough chances or break down enough play - he can do a bit of everything but not to the required level for international football. If he played for Portsmouth or Sunderland then Sven would not even consider him for the squad.
Out of the two, Nolan in a heartbeat (although I would like to see Reo-Coker given a chance aswell).

Here is an analogy Prenn.
In New Zealand there was a rugby player who was awesome at provincial level. His teams always won under his captaincy and more importantly, they showed real grit and fight. He won many trophys.
So they put him in the All Blacks and made him captain. The problem was that he was not actually a good enough player to be in the All Blacks, no matter how great a captain he was, he was simply not up to it at that level.
The reason Nolan is not at Spurs is because he does not have the potential to match their ambition. Jenas does. Even though Jenas may in fact never blossom into a great player. Even though Nolan is doing it week in and week out and Jenas isn't.
That's the reason Nolan won't play for england (or spurs).
Personally I think neither should be in the squad.

Potential is actually an imessurable thing. You can only assume someone's got it by their rate of development. Jenas' whole reputation is based upon his development very early in his career whereas Kevin Nolan has developed steadily and less spectacularly. Nolan is eight months older than Jenas but has developed into the better player and has been for quite some time. Currently the £7 million Jenas is not living up to the potential that has warranted the large transfer fees spent on him.
Manchester United are looking at strengthening their midfield in the summer, just who out of Nolan and Jenas are they looking at?
I also find it amusing that you don't think Nolan is good enough for Spurs. The point is you couldn't afford him and nor would he want the move. It's easy to say that you don't want what you can't have. The only Spurs midfielder who's of a comparable quality to Nolan is Michael Carrick.
I mean if you seriously think Murphy is a better option than Nolan then let me be the first to point and laugh.

Can i just clear something up with way :D
I am NOT a spurs fan :D :D
I follow arsenal in the prem - LOL!
a). I DESPISE DANNY MURPHY
b). I didn't say i didn't think Nolan is good enough for spurs. I said due to spurs over inflated ideas about themselves in the scheme of things, they are unlikely to ever consider a guy like Nolan.
c). I think Jenas is an over hyped piece of crap.
d). I know what you are saying, but you also now how this stuff works. The current english management is not the kind of management that selects players who can get a job done. Sven is way less pragmatic that someone like Jose M who will select some relatively unspectacular but loyal servants will execute his precise wishes on the field. Like the right back Paolo F.
e). I'd probably prefer to see Nolan go over Jenas and Hargreaves, both of whom are rubbish.
f). I don't believe any of these players are good enough for major tournaments. Although Nolan may be the kind of guy who could do a job reliably and support the better players. It's kind of hard to know if he never gets called up.

Actually I was just trying to offer Prenn some views on why players who might be borderline good enough to be called up never are, whereas some who never become good enough, are called up all the time.
Dreadful club spurs of course. Dreadful fans :D
