You should have seen Schalke - Palermo this week, then you'd understand. He was brilliant.
Waiting for an answer (http://www.bigsoccer.com/forum/showpost.php?p=7028977&postcount=42).
I'm no fan of Asamoah, but I see the role he plays on the team.
BTW, FR96, you probably won't get an answer to your "blood" comments.
Your posting was f#cking excellent. I don't see how it could be argued against.

Nice to see one of my old posts get some mileage! :D
The fact that some people can't see beyond bloodlines is really sad though...
Their loss I guess...

My lineup:
--------------------Lehmann-------------------
Friedrich------Metzelder-------Metersacker-----Lahm
--------------Kehl/Frings-----Hamann-----------
-------------------Ballack-----------------
-----Neuville---------Klose--------Podolski
Lahm, Ballack, Neuville, Klose & Podolski will attack; The rest will be mainly defensive, with Hamann & Ballack doing the distribution.
Let's keep the 1-0's coming! :D

Asamoah was again great today for Schalke vs. Palermo. He set up both Larsen's and Azaouagh's goals, with his setup for Mimoun's goal being very impressive. I think Asamoah would be a great player to have coming off the bench during the WC.
I like Asamoah a lot. He is a constant battler, with good speed and strength. He's not the most skillful forward around, but his skill is good enough. He's also not a big time goal scorer, even though he's good for a goal now and then. But what he does bring to the forward line is constant defensive disruption. With his speed and strength and constant work rate, he keeps opposing defenses very busy, and helps create space for the other forwards and attacking mids.
This remind me of WC02. Remember that Klose scored all 5 of his goals in the first round, when Carsten Jancker was starting along side of him. Yes, Carsten Jancker is just a big stiff (although he had a few good seasons with Bayern, teaming up well with Elber). But Jancker is a big mother f#$%er, who is very physical and works his butt off and actually posseses a bit of touch. He is the classic defense disrupter.
Thus, what was plainly obvious to me was that Jancker was freeing up tons of space for Klose, who was able to sneak up on people and get his headers in. But then Voeller decided to start Nueville in the second round. Nueville is most definetely a more skillfull player than Jancker, and can really dribble. He even scored the big goal against Paraquay to help Germany squeak by. However, Klose's production dried up completely with Nueville as his striking partner.
A strong physical presense on the front line can be very very valuable.
All that said, however, I would still start Poldolski or Hanke along side Klose. :)
I just like Asamoah, and think he can be very valuable.

I hope, that weīll play with 2 DM.
That must not mean, that we lose offensive power, but we get more security, which on the other hand give the offensive players the chance to take more risk.
I think the reason of our defensive problem is not only the young centerbacks, but the big hole that we have in center midfield in front of the defense line.
We play with two offensive wingbacks and a central midfielder who penetrates the box permanently to get headers. That means there is in almost every counter attack a big hole in the center midfield and at least on one wing.
One DM canīt fill both holes at once, a footbll pitch is to wide for one player alone, if both wingbacks tend to attack.
Letīs play for example Frings and Kehl in front of the defense, so that each of them can secure one wing if the wingbacks go in attack and the other can close the midfield behind Ballack.
I think, that football games were won in the midfield through position game and ball possession. A team cannot develope itīs game, if itīs in minority in the center of the pitch.
We would have 4 creative midfielders and forwards, who could play a very flexible, position rotating game, if they have two backups behind them. They could take more risk, they must not go back anymore at any time the opponents fullbacks go in counter attack. So they could save power for their attacking game on one hand and are free to press on the build up of the opponents back and midfield by an intense forechecking.
I would like such a line-up:
.................Lehmann
Lahm...Mertesacker...Huth...Jansen
............................Kehl
.................Frings
...........................Ballack
...........Schweini
................................................Poldi
.......................Klose
Lahm and Jansen could go forward at any time, Kehl or Frings backing them.
Ballack could be the midfield anchorpoint and penetrate the box while backed up from the second DM.
Schweini could play RM, rightwinger and sometimes OM.
Poldi leftwinger, OM or center forward.
Klose center forward who sometimes changes to one of the wings.
So in attack mode, we have many variations building up from the stated basic formation, i.e.:
.................Lehmann
.....Mertesacker...Huth...Jansen
............................Kehl
...Frings..........
..................Schweini
.....................................Poldi
Lahm.................Klose.....Ballack
(Lahm runs forward for a cross, Frings secures behind him, Schweini and Poldi closing to the center of the box for rebounds, Ballack and Klose waiting for the header.)
.................Lehmann
Lahm...Mertesacker...Huth...
.......................................Kehl
..........................Frings
...........Schweini.................Ballack
................................................Jansen
.......................Klose........Poldi
(Jansen goes forward runs behind Poldi runs free to the goal, Ballack backing them, Frings holding the center midfield, Schweini saving the rebound)
However, you can imagine by yourself, how many flexible build-ups are thinkable, if the basic formation secures the midfield.

OK---Fraulein96 & most of you here at Big Soccer. I am "guilty" of committing a "Heresy"---saying Asamoah is not "German"! Chastise me with Scorpions--put me before a tribunal as the Catholic Church did with Galileo when he refused to admit the earth was the center of the universe.
How terrible my "crime"----I admit the existence of races & how national teams should, at least.."reflect" their nation, in their ethnicity.(Again---imagine -for arguments sake-----A "Japanese National Team" composed of ALL Blond, blue eyed Scandanavians---who have "taken Japanese citizenship")----I'm sure that would not sit well with the Japanese---who have at least retained their National Dignity & honor after a lost war----Not--like the wimps, cowards & traitors who compose the "German" government today---where all "national pride" is not only discouraged...but condembed!AGAIN---I stand by my statement---that the German National Teams of the past always made up for whatever talent shortage they had----with typical German...courage, fighting spirit & tenacity----take THAT away---& you're losing a lot!
I really do appreciate this nice.."liberal" open minded forum----I am ignored- made fun of.....& mocked....So, i say to just about all of you here that want me out (with the possible exception of Wolf who has the courage--or as we Italians say--the "Coglioni" to stand up for what he feels is right)----I am out of here! I hope this makes all of you very happy, & more comfortable. I did find reading & posting very entertaining & I will miss this board---& My hopes go with my beloved German National team! I give them a final..."Es lebe Deutschland"!---I have been "driven out"!
As Galileo allegedly whispered when he retracted his statement that the earth "revolved" around the sun......"But, it still moves.."---I say----I have NOTHING against Gerald asamoah--I'm sure he is a very nice man---but--"He's still NOT German"! Ciao---to all----Wotan (Robert)

Now that we are ahead of Euro 2008 and toward WC 2010. I therefore propose this thread to be activated.
Quite some names were mentioned in the first few pages of this thread, inter alia: Deisler, Fahrenhorts, Nowotny, and Patrikc Omowoyela :)
Anyway on topic: how is it mods?
