He was amazing from what I saw at 1:45 am here.
I think he should be #1 now.

just like lehmann wasnt to blame for last weeks 4-1 disaster in italy, kahn wasnt to blame for yesterdays...
lets not get carried away and pass judgement yet...
i feel kahns decision making is still better but lehmann has it over him on the athleticism and physical departments... kahn is showing signs of ageing but lehmann has coped better...
(who would ask an opponent if he would like to exchange shirts after the match, in the middle of all the action with the tie far from over? well, lehmann did ask ronaldo if they could swap shirts - probably just to taunt kahn over his world cup final gaffe :p , but nevertheless these things would worry me as a coach)
its still a tough call but both keepers are playing well and thats not a problem for anybody...

Who said anything about Kahn being at fault for anything?
Might that be a bit of panic?

footyfan, id prefer it if you would leave the jibes out of it when im trying to make a objective point but may i ask what panic you might be referring to? and please look at the order of the teams listed in my profile before you are quick to pass judgement on 'bayern fans' as is your wont!

anyway, back on topic regarding the selection between who should play in goal for germany...
footyfan, you said in your original post - "any questions?"
heres my question - do you think lehmann should get picked over kahn for germany? if yes, why?

I'll answer this.
Lehmann has had a better season
He looks very assured in net.
Thats my answer :D

I'm going from previous readings. My memory was that your choice would be Kahn.
And again, I said nothing about "Bayern Fan". This is about Kahn/Lehmann. Might we both be making bad assumptions??

Yes. Because Lehmann was better than Kahn for the entire time after 2002 with the possible exception of last season and he's better than Kahn now.

I have to agree with that. Since WC02, Kahn hasn't been what he used to be, which was an absolute monster. He had a major dip following 02, and then with the crap in his personal life (affair with barmaid, cheating on pregnant wife - big distractions), as well as health issues (eye probelm - don't know the current status with that). Plus, Kahn is showing his age, while Lehmann is still looking pretty youthful.
Ever since Klinsmann declared open competition for the GK position (a brilliant move), Kahn's form has improved. But this season, Lehmann has been even better.
In fact, Henry and Lehmann are probably Arsenal's two brightest stars this season.
And even if both players get injured, the likes of Hildebrand, Weisse, Weidenfelder, Jentsch (sp?) and a host of others could fill in quite nicely.
For goalkeeping, Germany is very well covered.
As for the center backs, well that's another story ....

Kahn, being the kind of man he is, accepted blame for that first goal in the 2002 WC Final and he let it nearly destroy him.
However, as much as I HATE the guy, to this day, I still don't blame him for that goal.
I blame Carsten Ramelow, who should have been back covering his goalkeeper to clear any possible rebound like every defender is taught from childhood.
Instead, Ramelow just stood there and watched Ronaldo put away that rebound.

And don't forget that even though Lehmann had a "down" season last season, when the money was on the line, he still saved Arsenal's asses much like he did last night against Real....... ;)

I think Weidenfeller and Wiese will be the next "Kahn and Lehmann" with Enke right on their heels. I think in a matter of a year or two, Hildebrand won't be a factor.

LMAO!! I think we're better off at that position than they are!! LOL!! ;)

As good as most of the points made here are, I don't think Klinsman is even worrying about that...he is going to start Kahn.
But I don't know any team in the WC that will have a better second choice than us...

Wouldn't be shocking.
After all, this is a coach who's planning to play two f#cking bench warmers in important roles........

Just to be consistent, Klinsi should start Michael Rensing (Kahn's back up at Bayern) in goal for Germany. Then maybe Andreas Goerlitz at right back. Then maybe Lars Ricken in midfield, then maybe ...... well, you get the idea.

Ramelow had a pretty good tournament otherwise. And Kahn was out of this world, and was idiotic for blaming himself on that rebound. But, yep, that play was Ramelow's fault.
BTW - I'm not wild about Kahn the person either, being that he cheated on his pregnant wife, and being a husband and father myself, I find that kind of thing appalling. Normally, I don't really care about an athlete's personal life, but that was really f#cked up.

Ramelow's fault? No way. I watched a tape of that game a week ago, and I've composed a post on the game which I'll post in the coming days. Anyhow, the real culprit on that play was Hamann. He made a horrible pass, straight to a Brazilian player. That's what precipitated Kahn's blunder. You can't really blame Ramelow.

Kahn was f#cking superhuman in that tourney. Without his form, I really don't believe Germany would have survived the first round.
And I still can't believe so many have gone all this time blaming Kahn for that goal. I know Ramelow has to be happy about it. Letting Kahn take the blame all this time.
Believe me, I've never heard Ramelow own up to his part in that goal.

I already hated Kahn for his acts earlier in his career. Mainly trying to karate kick Dortmund's Stephane Chapuisat during a match and a year or two later trying to bite Dortmund's Heiko Herrlich during a match. There were more, but those are the two that stand out. Kahn commited acts anyone else would have been suspended for. Kahn got nothing.
Typical old DFB protection of their "Royal Club".........
So, when Kahn committed the later acts, it only confirmed my thoughts of him.
And as a former husband and still father, I found it appalling too. However, like you said, I don't normally care about an athlete's personal life and it is his business.
But it was f#cked up. No other way to put it......
And I think Verena is a DOG compared to the ex-Mrs. Kahn.
Maybe Kahn has "Prince Charles Disease!!" LOL!!

1) I don't feel Kahn "blundered" and I hate the MF. He made a save on a hard shot and couldn't hold the rebound. I don't know many keepers who do hold that rebound. People don't give Rivaldo credit for that hard ass shot.
2) I can't really blame Ramelow?? The hell I can't. And I do.
I didn't see where anyone gave you veto rights over anyone else's opinion. I think I missed that post.

snakeaters right - hamann lost the ball on a challenge to ronaldo who layed it off to rivaldo ans scooted off unmarked... it all happened very quickly but hamann lost the ball right in front of his goal which was absolutely criminal!

The SZ had an interesting article on Thursday where they proposed that Klinsmann should field the Bremen midfield -Micoud +Ballack for the National Team. I can live with that if the National team would adopt Werders midfield-tactics.
