After seeing performances of Rooney, Crouch, Defoe, and Bent which strikers do you think will make the cut?

Rank them in order if comments if you like.

Mine:
1) Rooney- even though he is over-rated he is still probably England's second best striker behind Michael Owen, and with Owen being injured, he is England's #1.

2) Owen- I dont know if he will be fit enough for the WC but we can only hope he is.

3) Bent- He is more physical than Crouch, though he lacks experience, WAIT, so does Crouch.

4) Crouch- Sorry he just isn't physical enough. He only one that last header because he is tall. He is a good striker, I just see him getting pushed around versus European teams.

If Erikkson goes with 5 strikers:
5) Defoe- doesn't do anything spectacular, he is just boring.

Those worth mentioning:
2 Able Veterans
1) Emile Heskey- may be old and in poor form, but he has lots of experience and won't let nerves get to him. He scores goals for the Nat team.

2) Darius Vassell- again an aging veteran, but I think he would be a good subsitute.

Darius Vassell is 25.

Compare his age to Darren Bent (22). And I'm not saying you are wrong but I thought Vassell is 27.

Rooney, Owen and Crouch will definitely be in the squad. The likes of Bent, Defoe and others will need to impress during the latter stages of the season.

Do you think if Owen remains hurt in the WC that maybe Vassell or Heskey could get a call-up to be a reserve?

The former might, but the latter has no chance.

Nah, he was born in the summer of 1980.

It's an understandable mistake tho, he seemed like he was at Villa forever.

Agreed Sendorange... The comment of Defoe having not done anything spectacular was all it took for me. Clearly lacking in well, you know.... :)

Bent ahead of Crouch and Defoe? You're having a laugh.

Bent showed absolutely nothing today. He fluffed the few chances he got and was offside for the rest of the game. He is clearly well suited to Charlton's tactics, but as he found out tonight, it's a different story when you're playing with new teamates who don't cater/don't know your game as much.

The top two have got to be:
(1) Rooney
(2) Owen

The decision as to who comes next has got to be taken based upon this. It's been said time and time again, Defoe is the perfect replacement for Owen. He is just as fast and as clinical. Owen's positioning and timing of runs is better, but give him half a chance and Defoe will score.

I have to say that after this game, Crouch has pushed himself up the list. Defenders simply do not know how to deal with him. If he has a good end of the season with Liverpool (and keeps his confidence high) he will definitely make the team. So my next picks are:

(3) Crouch
(4) Defoe

Bent would have to fight it out with Vassel for the reserve spot, with Vassel being slightly ahead right now becuase of his experience and the fact that he's always performed for England.

Manchester City striker Darius Vassell is set to play through the pain barrier with a hernia problem until the end of the season. Vassell has been struggling with the problem for the last few weeks and he was left out of last weekend's defeat at Liverpool in order to rest the injury. City's head coach Derek Fazackerley is confident Vassell will be able to continue with the discomfort until the end of the current campaign.

I think we can assume that this injury calls into question his chances of making the World Cup.

How about Dion Dublin? Just made a big money move to Celtic and he did, afterall, score the first ever Premiership goal.

1. Rooney - natch

2. Owen - injury-plagued, but still a great player

3. Defoe - excellent finsher and skilful

4. Crouch - provides an impressive aerial threat which is needed when Defoe, Rooney and Owen are all under 6 foot.

I think Crouch has made a good enough case for his inclusion on the England squad; Bent did well, but he's not offering anything extra.
