me ratings;
Robbo - Was able when called upon but could do nothing about Uruguay's stunning goal - 7
Gary Neville - Got forward really well at times and worked very hard - 8
Bridge - Again, did well to break foward as well, but got cruelly taken off injured :( - 7
Terry - Had a few chances when he went forward, could well have scored a great little solo goal. Looked fairly solid in defence - 8
Rio - Made a few too many errors for my liking - 7
Joe Cole - Man of the match, worked his arse for 90 mins and was rewarded with the goal. Outstanding performance - 10
Gerrard - Looked like a ghost in the centre - 5
Beckham - Started off well and stuck to the right hand side. Some nice delivery but really tailed off in the second half - 7
Michael Carrick - Did his chances of a WC callup no harm with a solid display in the centre - 8
Bent - Worked hard and made some decent runs, but looked a bit nervous at times - 7
Rooney - Typical Rooney performance. Only a lack of good service and his final touch let him down - 7.5
Subs:
SWP - Worked his arse off down the right and then set up the winner for Cole due to his sheer persistance on the right flank - 8.5
Ledley King - Was moved about somewhat, looked solid, but was poor in his passing - 7
Carragher - Looked solid as solid can be. Got booked for a sloppy challenge late on. Other than that, looked pretty comfortable
Defoe - Didn't really have time to make a full impact - 6
Crouch - A goddamn legend. :) Scored the goal! Still looks a bit timid at times - 7
Jenas - I thought he looked lazy as per usual - Not a big fan, espeically when we could have played Nolan in this position - 6
MOTM: Cole.... of course!

Robinson- Out of position so he couldn't save that superb strike by that Uruguayan- 6
Back four all get 8s except Ledley King did forget to mark that one striker who almost scored if it wasn't for Robinson's good save.
MOTM- Joe Cole- quality play, he didn't give up at all, and he faked out alot of Uruguayan defenders with his dribbling skills.

me ratings;
Robbo - bit of a mixup with Bridge, not much that could be done on the goal and handled everything else no problem - 7
Gary Neville - always does well when he's fit but a bit off with his attacking headers - 7.5
Bridge - overlapped nicely, shame about the injury - 7
Terry - solid and then surged forward twice near halftime, which was entertaining - 8
Rio - far too slack on the ball - 5
Joe Cole - Uruguay couldn't handle him at all, still too overelaborate at times though - 9
Gerrard - not fit and so didnt surge forward like he can - 6
Beckham - did alright, although his freekicks and corners were poor and his crosses weren't on top form - 7
Michael Carrick - controlled the midfield possession, looked like he'd been playing there for years - 8.5
Bent - Worked hard but lacking experience and a bit of decision making. dont think he should go to the world cup, but one for the future - 6
Rooney - worked hard but not sharp enough in the final third, keeps dropping too deep which left Bent isolated - 7
Subs:
SWP - a lot of pace and determination, 2 defenders covering him and they still struggled - 8
Ledley King - composed and untested - 7
Carragher - good defender but does nothing going forward, which when Joe Cole moves infield leaves us with nothing on that wing - 6
Defoe - not enough time
Crouch - south american teams cant handle him. but still a bit too weak and slow to trouble better teams - 7
Jenas - played too negative and nervous, got better towards the end - 5

Robinson: 7 - A few decent saves, no chance on the goal
Neville: 7 1/2 - Pretty good, got forward very well
Terry: 7 - Not really tested, but solid when needed
Rio: 6 - Dodgy first 10 minutes but never really tested properly
Carragher: 6 - Didn't have too much to do, obviously was never going to offer much going forward from a fullback position
Beckham: 7 - decent in the first half, provided a threat
Gerrard: 6 - Not terrible but never seems to play to his reputation for England
Carrick: 8 - Good passing, decent interceptions, useful.
Cole: 9 - MOTM, very lively and a big threat. Deserved his goal.
Rooney: 6 - One of few England games where he wasnt a key player
Bent: 6 - Well, didnt look international class really
SWP: 8 - Very impressed. Wasted at Chelsea.
Crouch: 7 - Scored.
Jenas: 6 - didnt notice him much
King had nothing to do, Bridge got injured, and Defoe not enough time to do anything.

Paul Robinson 6 - Didn't have much to do so can't give higher than a 6, and if I'm being harsh he may well of been out of position on the goal.
Gary Neville 7 - Solid in defence and attacked well down the right. Linked well with both Beckham and SWP.
Wayne Bridge 6 - Started out well but unfortunately got injured.
John Terry 7 - Defended well when he was called upon and almost scored a great goal.
Rio Ferdinand 5 - Defended well for the most part but is prone to some serious moments of lack of concentration which could be costly against better teams.
Michael Carrick 8 - Played very well in the defensive midfield role, broke up attacks and showed a good range fo passing. Runner up in my Man of the match vote and booked his place in the squad.
David Beckham 6 - A mixed performance, some great link up play and good passes and some clumsy tackles and moments were he seemed to go missing.
Steven Gerrard 6 - Was allowed to attack more but didn't get hold of the game as we've seen him in the past. Still gave his all and produced some good moments.
Joe Cole 9 - Ronaldinho in disguise! Cole was up for this game and looked dangerous every time he got the ball. A great cross for the first goal and a good finish for the second.
Wayne Rooney 7 - Looked lively when on the ball but didn't get it enough for my liking. Worked hard and is always a threat.
Darren Bent 6 - Worked hard on his debut but lacks nouse, deserves to be considered for the World Cup but will probably miss out.
Subs
Jamie Carragher 6 - Was solid at left back when he came on, didn't offer much going forward but defended well.
Ledley King 6 - Solid defending when called upon.
Jermaine Jenas 5 - Didn't really notice him.
Shaun Wright Phillips 8 - Gave England something different when he came on. Very lively and set up the winner.
Peter Crouch 7 - Gave England something different as well. Scored a good goal and played well. (i still don't like him though)
Jermaine Defoe 6 - Not given a chance to do anything.

Subs
Jamie Carragher 7
Ledley King 7
Jermaine Jenas 5

Scored a goal and made an excellent pass to Cole to finish the game off earlier than he did. Hadn't it been for how damn good Cole was throughout the whole game Crouch would have been MOTM".
Jermaine Defoe "not enough time"

Pretty much agree with these except I would rate Jenas lower and Joe Cole higher... (think his jersey number) :D
Absolutely brilliant 93 minutes for Cole - the best I have ever seen him play for the NT.

Bent= 5........He was offsides way too many times. Kept getting suckered into traps.. Definately shouldn't make the squad for the World Cup in my opinion. I thought King played well for the most part and can be utitlized at center back or holding midfielder. Very valuable asset for England, especially since we don't know what the status for Campbell will be..

Are you Erikson in disguise??? Who would you have replace Bent? Jermaine Defoe? Sorry I would say Bent is better quality than Defoe. He just needs to be given a chance.

Bent has potential. He is just not quite there yet for this World Cup, and lets be honest here, with only 4 strikers going to the World Cup, there is no spot for him.
Owen, Rooney, Crouch, Defoe..
Defoe has scored for England in a meaningful game.

me ratings;Joe Cole - Man of the match, worked
his arse for 90 mins and was rewarded with the goal. Outstanding performance - 10
In the history of the Gazzetta dello Sport, they've awarded a 10
just once. It was for Francesco Toldo, when he saved 5 penalties in
the semi-final vs. Holland at Euro 2000.
I would call Cole's performance here a 7. He had fun with Uruguay's right
full-back, made some nice crosses, and scored the winner. Not exactly
a hattrick in a major final, but very lively. Like Del Piero vs. the Germans.

good thing we are not gds... LOL
Had the big assist and the winning goal. I don't remember a single mistake. Dribbled fools, passed around fools, stole it from some fools, had some threatening shots, a huge cross for the equalizer, and the game winning goal. That is a 10 in me book ;)

Starters
Robinson: 7 (Did well, but his tackle on Bridge was unnecessary)
Neville: 7.5 (Good game. No frills, borderline boring, but dependable)
Ferdinand: 5 (This clown was lucky his mistakes weren't costly)
Terry: 8 (Great performance and led by example)
Bridge: 6 (Unlucky...)
Beckham: 6 (Didn't do much. Missed a golden opportunity)
Gerrard: 7 (Ok, but has a case of the John Barnes syndrome)
Carrick: 8.5 (Great performance. Hardly put a foot wrong)
Cole: 9.5 (Fantastic. He was everywhere)
Rooney: 8 (Great game. Like Cole, he was everywhere)
Bent: 5 (Poor lad tried hard but looked out of place)
Subs
King: 7.5 (Assured performance. A few mistakes, but miles better than Ferdinand)
Carragher: 7 (Did well, but should have been sent off)
Jenas: 5 (Only came to life for about 10 mins)
SWP: 7 (Lively, but not as great as everyone seems to suggest)
Crouch: 8 (Great substitute appearance)
Defoe: 5.5 (Not enough time to make an impression)

Robinson: n/a a spectator for the whole match
Neville: 7, got forward well
Ferdinand: 3, a liability
Terry: 8, good going forward, no mistakes
Bridge: n/a
Beckham: 2, poor crossing, poor free kick, poor positioning, poor finishing, his replacement was much more effective
Carrick: 8, completely at ease in his role
Gerrard: 4, anonymous, should have given Nolan a go instead
J.Cole: 10, man of the match. Great dribbling, great crossing, a class act all round
Rooney: 5, lost the ball trying to do too much when there were simpler options available. Greedy
Bent: 1, always offside, couldn't get a single effort on target, not confident enough for international football
Subs:
Carragher: n/a, not his position
SWP: 9, great dribbilng as always, now he's putting some decent crosses in
Jenas: 4, didn't do anything wrong, but didn't do anything right either, we were effectively playing with two defensive midfielders as he wasn't creating anything
Defoe: n/a not on long enough
Crouch: 8, well taken goal and setup for Cole but wasn't on long enough to do much
King: Can't remember what he did.

Robinson- 6. Did well when called upon and got caught out by that volley Need to get a grip-- that's two team-mates he's injured
Neville- 7. Gave the side more width on the right than Beckham.
Ferdinand- 4. Ordinary-- lucky there was only one striker to deal with. King or Carragher are better options.
Terry- 7.5. Solid, even with Rio besides him. Showed the strikers how to break into the box.
Bridge- 7. Poor fellow, what rotten luck. Good defensively and going forward.
Beckham- 5. Too worried about his hair-do. Ought to have buried one of those chances. Ordinary at set-pieces.
Gerrard- 5.5. Flashes here and there but mainly subdued.
Carrick- 6. Not too bad, but need to come up with plan B when the opposing defences are defending on a line inside the box.
Joe Cole- 8.5. Outstanding England player on the night. Superb movement off the ball. Provided width on the left, tracked back, held the ball up and took on defenders. Created a goal and scored a nifty one himself.
Rooney- 7. Good energy. Tracked back well.
Bent- 5.5. Looked a bit lost, poor chap. Couldn't time his runs and got desperate as the match wore on.
Subs.
Carragher- 6. Goold defensively but limited by not having a competent left-foot to go forward.
Jenas 4. Where was he meant to play? Positionally awful. Lost the ball far too easily. Nolan, please.
Wright-Phillips- 7. Bright and enterprising. Changed the match by engaging two defenders every time he had the ball.
King- 6. Ought to start in place of Rio, next time. Unfussed and comfortable on the ball.
Crouch- 7.5. Caused chaos in the Uruguay defence and settled England nerves with goal. Could've got a couple more had he some oomph (and was willing to jump). Good on the deck, too.
Defoe. No enough time but he seems to have better movement (and nous) than Bent.

Toldo was good, but I don't see what was so monumental about his performance that day. The main reason he saved so many is that the Dutch hit poor penalty after poor penalty.

I've come into this as a complete virgin, so as not to influence my thoughts - I've read none of the thread............
Robinson 5 - would have got 6 if he hadn't crippled one of our own - no keeper ever, would have saved that shot.......
Neville G 6 - despite being a retard, who can barely string a coherrant sentence together, is universally despised, has bad breath and an ugly cvnt for a brother - he is still a country mile ahead of our nearest alternative!
Rio Spazzoland 3 - Jesus H Christ does he even know which way he's facing, let alone who the opponents are - fcukin liability, but will still go to Germany!
JT 7 - leads by example, crashes around everywhere and gets in the way of our own attack, by being so committed - should be captain!
Bridge 5 - come on lad, get yer arse in gear and stop laying down all the time - you are due to repay some of your extravagant wages.....
Posh 4 - wanker again, who didn't appear to be able to get the ball above waist height, even with all the tall boys forward - but we know he'll start, cos SGE is shaggin poshspice!
Stevie 6 - cameo role, one of the first names on the sheet!
Carrick 7 - could quite easily do the Posh job, as could Scott Parker (where the fcuk was he?)
Joey 8 - non existant in the first half, then world-class after that.........
Looney 6 - first choice striker, he'll be awesome in Germany!
Bent 5 - not given the service he needed, although he looked a little off the pace, suprising, after Tord Grip said how sharp he looked in training???
Subs:
Carragher 6 - will probably end up our first choice left back, as all the rest are dying on us - not such a bad thing, he's steady and he's not the sort to cry-off easily like some of them!
Ledley 6 - sound as a pound, won't let us down and with Sol's demons threatening to destroy him, might well end up alongside JT, so long as Rio keeps playing the way he does?
JJ 5 - missing his boyfriend, looked a bit jaded - probably had a sore arse!
SWP 5 - only thing he did right was the cross for the goal - SGE was spot-on when he ridiculed what Chelski paid for him!
The longun 7 - cliche I know, but he adds a different dimension, defences get focused on him and his height, then he knocks a cunning little through ball to Joey on the ground - supersubino................
Jermaine 5 - no time to show anything much, but I guess he'll go to Germany in front of Bent..
So, certainties to start are:
.........................Robbo
Tard............JT...................................
Posh..........Stevie.........Frank...........Joey
.........Looney.........Mikey (if fit)

Stop being so objective ffs.
The fundamental point is the same. For all the high ratings people are dishing out, it was a relatively average overall performance and the perception of the entire match has changed thanks to yet another late winner. That's why the Gazzetta dello Sport ratings are so good. They are reliable and can be trusted.
