The second half of the Uruguay game just started.
Carrick and Robinson, both starters, remain on the pitch.
King and Jenas replace Terry and Gerrard.
Now we just need to get Bent out and Defoe in.
When's the last time four Spurs players were on the field at once for England?

And in the 82nd minute it's Defoe for Bent....

Carrick was very impressive, played like it was his 50th cap and controlled the possession for the whole game.
Uruguay goal was a wonder effort, not much Robbo could have done. Although there was one moment of miscommunication with Bridge and Robbo flattened him :D
Defoe didnt get long enough, but I thought Bent looked a bit lacking that extra experience and sharpness. I'm sure Defoe will go to the World Cup if he is fit and scores a few more goals for us.
Jenas was a bit disappointing in central midfield, got better after a poor start but he still has some way to improve there.
Ledley did fine, wasn't really threatened and got on the end of a freekick. Ferdinand looked really slack on the ball, so I wouldn't rule out Ledley starting with Terry before long.

JJ was quiet, but seemed to be involved a lot. He gave away too many passes I think, but also won a good amount of balls. Carrick was great though.

Rio looked like he was moving house again -- my god! Such a talent but you wonder where his mind is at times. Carrick looked great -- should get the bench in Germany -- Gerrard and Lampard are both amazing but together I'm not so sure, but you gotta start your best XI I guess so Lampard and Gerrard start. Defoe should be the 4th striker -- would like to have seen him and bent or him and crouch start and go 60 -- by the time Defoe got on the pitch Uruguay was subbing at the rate of 1 a minute...we know rooney is gonna start so why not give someone else some more time...

The last time England had 5 Tottenham players was April 29th 1987 in a European Championship qualifier against Turkey- them players were Clive Allen, Gary Mabbutt, Glenn Hoddle, Chris Waddle & Steve Hodge.

Sven has said that for certain games he 'will pick Carrick ahead of Gerrard and Lampard because England need a sitting midfielder, and player like Zidane who plays behind he front 2.'
Carrick? Zidane? Steady on, crazyman!

It's become clear that in international competition neither Lampard no Gerrard will be committed enough to defense to make that central pairing work. Both want to be the Zidane on the world stage. Thus Carrick needs to start to cover for Lampard/Gerrard moving forward and playing the Zidane role .... all of which you probably already knew. :)
I've been saying for a long time just how good Carrick is. I'm glad to see him get his chance, and completely expected him to shine. Hopefully Sven takes off the rose-and-blue colored glasses and sees the excellent talent before him in the lillywhite shirt at the Lane.
