I was wondering what is the best Soccer Stadium in the world? I think when the new Wembley stadium is built in London, England, that will take thew crown, but what is the best at the moment? Opinions please...?

Hmmm good point. I would say the following to take into account...

1 - Design (architecture)
2 - Atmosphere
3 - Capacity (anything over 50,000 is ok i think)
4 - Facilities and comfort for fans.
5 - Location (i.e. in a good city so you can make a weekend out of the visit).

Yup thats certainly a good shout, I have seen pics of it and it does look the part, esp on the inside. Other nice ones are the Millenium Stadium in Wales and also Real Madrids Bernabau is nice. Tho I think Wembley will be amazing once complete looking at the plans.

On the MLS board, someone better name an MLS venue real quick or move the thread.

The Rapids stadium looks like it's gonna be the best of the new ones. For now, I thinkt he best is the HDC.

I also nominate two from Buenos Aires:

1) Boca Jrs - Bonbonera ??
2) River Plate

And somewhere in Brazil is a legendary huge stadium that has the playing field elevated a bit so that some fans are like on ground level - (The team benches are even lower)

For passionate fans, the best answer has to be, "my team's stadium!"

Except for Metro and KC fans, that is.

The Rotterdam based newspaper "AD" had a special Friday on the Dutch Eredivisie soccerstadiums.
The Part on the "KUIP" head was: Mother of all stadiums
the article

Rotterdam without the "Kuip" is the same as Paris without the Eiffel tower.
"It's a symbol for the city and actually for the whole country" says former F-player Peter Houtman."and I'm not saying that as a Chauvinist, the "Kuip" is the stadium of all stadiums".

What soccer enthusiast doesnot get spellbounded after his/her first encounter with the 1937 build structure of the architecs Van der Vlugt and Brinkman.

Houtman (48) can recall his first visits to the "Stadion Feijenoord" all too well.
With my uncle back on his scooters buddyseat.
As a supporter I lived through the golden glory days of Feyenoord.
Also his first match in the "Kuip" he willnever forget. I even recall how the invitation looked like. I just became member of Feyenoord and was allowed to play as a C- junior a pre match against Yerseke before Feyenoord played its match.
I was so proud that I was allowed to stand on that field. That turf is fantastic. I was a left winger. That meant I was allowed the spot of the legendary Coen Moulijn. Coen always requested that the grass on the sides was cut very short, so I played on a "carpet"

It wasnot just the famed billiart table like surface that turned the "Kuip" into such a special/extraordinary stadium. It is mainly the atmosphere that sets this monumental stadium apart from all the others. Houtman describes the sound as "Super Stereo".

After the thourough 1994 renovation the "Kuip" has been modernized , but it kept the unique atmosphere, Houtman thinks. They struck the right mix.
On the points of luxouriousness and comfort much has improved.
The reception has more impact and allure by the addition of the "Maasgebouw"( Maas building). The "Kuip" has as a result international allure.
And the beauty of the Olympia side is that a number of characteristic items, like the glass in lead windows and the wall paintings, were preserved.

Most Feyenoord fans cannot bear the thought that The "Kuip" will ever be demolished. "We noticed how sensitive that discussion is" says Stadium manager Jan van Merwijk about the last year ditched plans to build a hypermodern new stadium with Ahoy.
In 1994 there was talk about the demolition of The "Kuip" and that caused a stirr among the supporters.
Van Merwijk understands the emotions quite well.
Houtman, as stadium speaker still locked into The "Kuip": "When I drive over the van Brienenoord bridge and I see our "Kuip" lying there, than I feel proud. I know developments are fast and spectators demands grow ever more, but The "Kuip" has many years ahead."
According to Van Merwijk, who doesnot want to go ahead on the future, The "Kuip" will be standing for the foreseeable future.
The story that the steel build "Kuip" after 100 years would have to be replaced because of metal fatigue he deems as nonsense. "The Eiffel Tower is a lot older and for the main part build with steel. But the older a stadium gets the more maintenance is required. Sometime there will be a tipping point, but not within ten years."

The "Kuip" has 5 UEFA stars rating, 10 times hosted a European club soccer final (top of Europe), European Championship 2000 Final, 102 National team matches and 5 EC2000 matches.

So truly the mother of all stadiums, even in the part of this special on the Ajax stadium, The "Kuip" is the talk as the assistent coach of Ajax Gerard van der Lem, played for three years in The "Kuip". He worked with van Gaal in Camp Nou, but The "Kuip" is his favourite, "A tremendous stadium, it still is. The "Kuip" is an imposing stadium, but also has some kind of cosyness."

It's not the base, it's the army.

I mean, yeah, for us Metro fans.
