Profits boost for City
By James Pearson - Created on 28 Feb 2006
Manchester City have announced a £16.8 million profit for the six months to November 30, although Shaun Wright-Phillips' sale weighs heavily in that figure.
The club sold star winger Wright-Phillips for £21 million in July 2005 to table-topping Chelsea, although the club remain an estimated £57 million in debt.
Around £5 million has been set aside to pay off short-term loans, while £1 million has been slashed off the club's wage bill - excluding Robbie Fowler's recent exit.
The striker, who earned £35,000-a-week with the Eastlands outfit, rejoined boyhood club Liverpool during the January transfer window on a free transfer.
City's finances could be boosted even further in the coming months should they overcome Aston Villa in their FA Cup reply on March 14.
