View Full Version : Die Nationalmannschaft Strengths and Weaknesses

I want Mannschaft fans opinions on what are the strengths and weaknesses of this team. I personally think the biggest concern should be our defense it's young and inexpierenced. It's seems since Klinnsmann introduced a more attacking style, that we get burned on the counter attack. Everyone except fans of the Mannschaft, thinks we will struggle and not make it past the Quarters in the World Cup. I think different however, German teams are known for their mental toughness and fighting to the last whistle. Plus we are playing on home soil so I think the fan support will give us a boost, with support though comes pressure. I think if we don't win this is will be a failure and cause National dissapointment. Getting back to the defense, I can't understand why we struggle with it in the past we were known for being a good defensive grind it out, Northern European style team. All I can say is never underestimate a German team in an International tournament, our will to win is immense. I'm going to end with two quotes that sum it all up John Harkes said " Germany is by a mile the best side I've ever played. They are so fast, so strong, so organized" another by Beckenbaur on why Germany is so successful "The German mentality is stronger than that of other nations... it's not that they play better soccer"

It's "Die Nationalmannschaft", nobody says just "Mannschaft".
Sorry, had to correct that! :D

I wish someone would tell that to the Dutch media... they keep calling them 'Der Mannschaft'. Sukkels, as they say in Holland.
After yet another entertaining display tonight, I can think of a few other names...

Our first thing to fix is the defence, which is going to take work. Someones either going to have to smack them into shape or we'll have to bring others in. (even though we dont have anyone else)

Maybe we should try robots? Aren't we number one in robot football?

in all seriousness, at this point Germany would be best off going into the WC with a Woerns-Metzelder pairing. I also like Gregoriak's idea of a 3-5-2 with Friedrich alongside the former.

I think she's just asking for you to be more grammatically correct, or alternatively to be less pretentious.

Funny:Arthur d I do not take lessons from an Englishman on how to be a better supporter of the German National Team. How can a English guy be a fan of Deutschland? All the English fans always talks S*** about us. They need to get over the war

I am not amused.
Not the first time it has happened though. I am used to being mistaken for an English guy now when I'm in the US... must mean my German accent is disappearing, which can only be a good thing.

Not really, no. I don't consider it an insult though. I seem to fit in very well here in Britain, even though they have an inferior sense of humour, and their beer is fairly weak. It's a very open minded society, more so than in Germany, and I like that.
I am a European, I guess. Still, I will always support Germany in sports.

Arthur if you are from there, I'm sorry but on your profile it said your hometown was Cambridge. Fraulein's comment rubbed me the wroung way, it seemed a little twitty/know it all. When I say just Mannschaft instead of "Die Nationalmannschaft" I think DFB Fans know what I mean anyway

My location is Cambridge. Look at the team for a clue as to what my home town is.
I understand F96 very well. It's very annoying when somebody uses a German word like Mannschaft (presumably to sound cool), but doesn't get it right. The Dutch press do it all the time... very embarrassing! They should really know better.
Same in Germany, btw. I hate the way German people abuse some English words like handy and (aargh) dressman.
