Does anyone plan on making travel decisions based upon the bird flu? It is being reported today that a cat in Northern Germany died from the bird flu so it looks as though it's only a matter of time before it spreads.
BERLIN - The deadly strain of bird flu was confirmed Tuesday in a cat in northern Germany, the first time the virus has been identified in a mammal in the 25 nations of the European Union.

I don't know about the rest of you, but I'll be keeping an eye on this situation.

Only if I get it before going over there. The bird flu is the biggest media scaremongering scam since, well, since SARS.

... or the African bees.
I eat chicken kebab at least 3-4 times a week. I dont really give a f*ck. If I dont get bird flu, I'll get hit by a bus. Whatever.

Well, between the bus and the flu, I think I'd take my chances with the flu.:)

The bird flu is about as likely to affect my trip as is Hitler rising from the grave sometime between now and June to form the Fourth Reich.

If the bird flu virus mutates into a human to human transmisable disease, there will be no World Cup. I heard an IATA spokeswoman on the BBC yesterday saying that the first thing that will happen if a pandemic breaks out is that flight crews will refuse to fly to infected regions. If you think this is a scam, look at previous outbrakes. This could be very, very bad, and the World Cup will be the least of our worries.
If the virus does not mutate, then we're all fine and there is nothing to worry about.
It is completely out of our control.

The bird flu is not a scam, it is a real threat. Of course, my office is across the street from this place (http://www.usamriid.army.mil/highlightspage.htm), so I tend to pay closer attention to these things than most.

Say, if you see people running around in the those white HazMat suits, you'll let us know, right?

My reservation's made, my tickets purchased. Not going to change a thing.
Bird flu may be real, but it's nothing particularly novel among all the other things in the world.

I stay as far away from those guys as I possibly can. Those guys play with stuff that makes the Tijuana "mystery meat" look as safe as a well-done ribeye @ Mortons.

If I get Ebola and start bleeding out of my eye sockets and anus, I may have to rethink going to Germany.
But short of that, I have no intention of changing my plans.

No! On second thought, make that a hell no! I don't plan on kissing any pigeons either.

Is this poll for real???? And who's the loser who said "yes"? Probably wears a surgeon's mask outside the house like Michael Jackson;)
NOTHING WILL STOP ME FROM GOING TO GERMANY!

Though it wouldn't hurt to fill a Tamiflu or Relenza script before leaving the country.

Gotta love the effect of the 24 hour news cycle.
I live down the street from this place (http://ars.usda.gov/main/site_main.htm?modecode=66-12-07-00), and I know an avian flu expert (on the road weeks out of every month to places like Thailand, Vietnam, etc.). I think we can safely say that (a) nobody knows whether a pandemic will occur, but (b) if it does, there will be no travel to the WC. Just read what happened in SE Asia when SARS hit. Things quickly got very weird.
And the guess is that Tamiflu isn't effective against H5N1.
If you want the skinny on avian flu, read Avian Flu (http://avianflu.typepad.com/).

I have eaten both tacos in Tijuana (on a few occasions) and regularly eat kebab here in Madrid. I have survived! Really - its more flavorful than that damn US meat :)

I can tell you the chances of the tweety flu changing my plans and myself NOT eating donnerkebabs are exactly the same (probably because I can't eat them over here). Slim to none.
