View Full Version : Bordeaux for the title?

Well all is not well at the Rhones-Alpes. Lyon slip up at home to Rennes, and now the team from Bordeaux is looking like the only real challenge to the Lyon crown. And although, Bordeaux themselves slipped up against Metz at home - could we well see Lyon blow their chances of a record 5th consecutive French title?

Can one possibly see the Girondins harbour a realistic shot for the title...?

We have seen greater comebacks (remember Lyon turning over that mammoth Monaco lead in 2004?)

What are your thoughts?

No chance in hell. Bordeaux dont score enough goals and Lyon still have plenty of firepower. Lyon did allow 4 goals vs Rennes but they still have a bunch of defenders out injured.

If Bordeaux can get a useful striker in the summer transfer window, I think they'll become a serious, REAL serious threat for us..

But not right now.;)

Right. Our game in hand, that's gonna be a very crucial factor in deciding the title. We have to get those three points at all cost because 6 point cushion doesn't seem to be enough with decisive CL matches coming. (Remember, GH has to rotate regular starters all the time to keep up with CL campaign)

Thankfully we've got pretty easy fixtures ahead of us in the L1.

Before answering the question I have to address this. Gillot the problem with what we've seen at Lens since the start of the season? Hardly! The fact is we're not deep enough in the back, we need another central defender so we can rest players more often. We've not played well since the break, however that's the first time in nearly a year since Gillot took over. Teams go through rough patches, it's bound to happen, in fact I think that is why this thread even exisits! Bottom line is that Gillot is not the problem and I'm confident Lens will finish the season strong.

As for the question at hand I think it depends on how far OL go in the CL. If they make it to the final, which they are well capable of doing, then I think that greatly increases the likliehood that Bordeaux can pip the title. I am skeptical, though. I believe OL have been reminded of the importance of being focused after a CL match and will do better next time. If they put in a good performance after the second leg of the PSV tie then I will lean toward them holding onto the title. If not, all bets are off.

Bordeaux are a great French squad. Lyon has too much of an advantage right now. But watch out! Afterall, no French team has won more European matches, and it will be great for them to get back into the C1.

While I'd love to say Bordeaux will pip the top spot away from Lyon I just can't see it happening. maybe if Bordeaux would've gotten all three points against Metz it'd be a bit different, but I just can't see it. I am not saying that Bordeaux won't make Lyon fight for the titler which they are, but I just don't think that Lyon's quality will let them down. The League will end up with Bordeaux 3 points behind Lyon and a good amount of goal differential.

And to think, Bordeaux went into this season not looking at challenging for the League, rather develop their youth and build for next year. Funny how things work out...

Allez Bordeaux!!

um, guys, i'm not sure what you're talking about, since PSG is going to win the title :p

thought that might make a few laugh... i hope bordeaux makes a real good run... and while i hope psg beats bordeaux of course, i think it would be really nice for ligue 1 to see bordeaux fight to the end and give lyon all they got...

hey hypo, what you do in austin? school? i was just there 2 weeks ago since my gf goes to UT... i'm going back down in april and may...

I think that winning the CL is way more important than another league title for Aulas and Houllier. They may go down to Bordeaux in the end but it is a going to be close either way.

You lost me with Thomert. A total chancer looking for the next big pay check. No loyalty to the club at all.

We simply disagree on Gillot. The man who should not be coaching Lens but coaching at a small club "like Metz" we already sacked and he is there where he belongs.
