I got new albums by The Editors and The Bravery recently. Both are Joy Division / post-punk inspired bands.
The ultimate rap turned country cover is still THE Gourds doing "Gin and Juice".
Treat yourself to it if you haven't already. Pure genius.
Nina Gordon's version of "Straight Outta Compton" is a good one:

...Black Star was great. The Roots, Mos Def, J-5, Nas...I think Rap can have a lot to say.

So do I...usually along the lines of;
"I came outta tha ghetto..."
"I have a large willy..."
"Look at my material wealth. I am amazing..."
"That >insert other rappers name here< is a ho.."
"All the women love me..."
"I really did come out of the ghetto..."
"No, really, I knew drug dealers and everything..."
"Actually I was a drug dealer..."
"Did I mention I have a large willy?"
Kanye, Nas, 50Cent, Eminem, Jay-Z etc etc...all boils down to the same thing, rapped differently, and I have A LOT of rap albums from when I was a yoot.

....for me the Stone Roses are my all time favourite band.....Went to see Coldplay in Orlando last saturday, excellent concert, but way way to short.
And acid techno and Drum & Bass used to be my thing back in London :) But as the grey hairs have started to come in I've definitely slowed down, if you know what I mean;)

You've got A+ taste my friend, if you read my profile (except I went way over my allotted space, so some is cut off), but My morning jacket is listed, as is uncle tupelo, (basically same thing as wilco and you should check out jay farrar's new band). Now, on to another topic, what the hell has happened to all of the video channels - I know MTV has been crap for awhile - nothing but rap - but I get like 50 music channels on my satellite, and they're all crap. The only thing good nowadays is Austin City limits on PBS - they had my morning jacket and Beth Orton a few weeks ago. It sucks being home all hammered and no music to see (I guess I could just listen to some, but that's not as exciting) I think I'll put in the U2 live at Red Rocks video, thats always good. Good night all, and lets hope for good results tomorrow.

Yes! :D The Symphonic Live DVD got me into them and I know own Close to the Edge and Fragile. I really need to pick up Tales from Topographic Oceans though because from what I've heard that is already my favourite of theirs.
If anyone likes Tool and doesn't have their new album run down to the shops and buy it now - it's brilliant.

Yep, SonVolt is what I'm talking about. Personally "Trace" is my favorite record by them - his newer stuff has gotten a bit pretentious; it's like he's trying to channel Hank Williams and/or any Acuff-Rose musician. As far as Uncle Tupelo, I've always been very fond of "anodyne" or to cover a broader base the "83/93 anthology" which covers most of their existance. If you do get anodyne, "15 keys" has always been one of my favorite songs, right up there with "driver 8" from REM's older (early 80's) "fables of the reconstruction". I'd be interested to hear someone else's opinion of them!

If you like those bands/alt-country you should check out the Silver Jews if you haven't already -- I'm not sure if they are Spurs fans but they should be with that sort of name...
Anyone listen to Elbow? They got this album 'Cast of Thousands' thats just wonderful -- I saw them open for the Doves 4-5 years ago before they even had an album proper out -- at least released in the US -- they blew the Doves off the stage as far as I was concerned, perhaps it has something to do with the Doves being Citeh fans...
