Barney Fife addressing a notorious gang that was just locked up in the mayberry jail...

"Here at the 'rock' we have two important rules, memorize them so that you can say them in your sleep!.... rule number one, OBEY ALL RULES!.... rule number two, no writing on the walls because it takes ALOT OF WORK to clean em' off!"

Forgotten in much of the rememberance of Don Knotts, he was part of the brilliant ensemble of players supporting Steve Allen on NBC's original "Tonight!" (which has become "The Tonight Show"). Knotts appeared alongside Louis Nye and Tom Poston in a variety of blackouts, including the legendary "Man on the Street" interview sketches.

Speaking of which, name goofball Disney movie, Scooby Doo (those campy "movies" from the 1970s), and the second landlord from Three's Company.

and of course the aforementioned Barney Fife...

And The Incredible Mr Limpet! Mr. Limpet!

Movie.

1964 or 65 I think.

Man fascinated by fish. Wanted to be one.

He got his wish.

It was one of the first half animated/half human characters movies.

I LOVED this movie!

You learn something new each day... I would hope that film would be out on DVD...

Obviously it was The Andy Griffith Show that made him iconic (as well as another aw-shucks guy named Gomer Pyle, who later joined the USMC and got his own series)...

I first heard of him as a kid by way of the Disney schlep films of the 70s and Scooby Doo and later as the landlord in Three's Company.

By way of syndication and Nickelodeon TV Land/Nick at Nite Don Knotts lives on! Give him a postage stamp!

Too bad we lost another funny man. The Andy Griffith Show was not the same after he left. I never understood why he left that show. Anyway he was also great as Mr. Furley on 3's Company in the early 80's.

I'd also like to remember Darren McGavin, long time actor and the man who played "The Old Man" in "A Christmas Story." One of my all time favorites, part of the reason being that the story is set in a place about five miles away from my home crib.

He also starred in "Kolchak: The Night Stalker".

In any case, it seems that celebrity deaths usually come in threes: R.I.P. Dennis Weaver (http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20060227/ap_en_tv/obit_weaver_9). :(

"Apple Dumpling Gang", yo.

Lot of Don Knotts/Tim Conway on at 7:00 on Sunday nights back in the day.;)

Gotta like the old "Jack's a fairy" gag jokes from Mr. Furley. Can't forget Ritter.

Wow, thats sad.

Barney Fife is truly one of the greatest comic characters of Tv's golden age. a bumbling goofball with a truly good heart, and who never failed to evoke belly laughs.
Thank goodness for TV Land.

Isn't that just bizarre?

Seems like LOTS of celebrity deaths in the last couple of years. I wonder how the numbers compare to deaths in the general population? Like for every one celebrity that dies...100 non-celebrity people die.

Surely a sign that there are a lot of us getting old all at once.

Though I've been old for quite a while already. :(

And don't forget his somewhat soccer related role as the coach of the California Atoms in the disney movie Gus (1976). The struggling Atoms find hope in an amazing soccer-ball-kicking mule from Yugoslavia. Gus the mule is brought over as half-time entertainment, but the California Atoms soon realize they may have found the best football field goal kicker of all-time.

You gotta love the 70's and Don Knotts.

Mr. Furley rules!!!

Interesting enough they were both on those Scooby Doo toons (however, nothing beats Sonny and Cher Bono, and Davy Jones of the Monkees)!

Disney classics even if it's for the kids (and the ones who are now getting there in age)...
