Allright, so we had decided to vote on 3 names at the last meeting and then this whole 1836 debacle happened. There has been (A LOT) of response from supporter's group members about the name of the team, and how they would like the s.g. name to have something to do with 1836.

We've been speaking to Oliver about this and he would be more than happy if we used 1836 as our name. So we've got the permission to use it, if we want.

So now we decide. This is the thread to put down your ideas. Do we want to be "Club 1836", "Texian Army 1836", "1836 Battalion", or some other permutation thereof? Suggest ideas, talk, discuss, get it all out now. We'll probably leave this up for about a week and then close it and gather up the most suggestions and vote on the top suggestions.

Also, if you don't want our name to be 1836, say so now. (Note: We will not be ddiscussing new names that do not include 1836. The only other names without 1836 that we will vote on will be Texian Army, Clockwork Orange, and Bayou Brigade.)

The 36'ers or Bat1836...I guess any combination of Battalion 1836 or 1836 Battalion.
1836 Brigade is cool because its a little shorter:D

I voted yes on 1836, I like "The Texian Army 1836" and "The 1836 Brigade" best... but anything including 1836 is cool with me. I will preface my vote, however, with this statement with an honest assesment about how active I think I will be in the group. My wife and I have a two year old and we live in Brenham, so we will probably attend about 10-13 of the team's 20 games (half season ticket package plus a few extra games). To the extent that I participate in club events it will be for the most part game day events (perhaps some tailgating and then sitting with the supporter's club at games to join in the singing, chanting, waving of 1836 flags, etc.). For example right now... I'm trying to decide what is more feasible for us to do this weekend... go to the preseason game in RR or to Robertson on Sunday (and maybe the kickaround at Memorial Park afterwards) because we probably can't do both. Normally, I probably won't be able to do midweek things not associated with games... but I would still like to be part of the club to the extent that it is practical for us to do so.

BTW... has there been a consensus yet on whether to go with the 100 or 200 level North End Zone seats?

1836 Brigade. It even uses one of the voted on names.

Or Frontier 1836. I came up with that as a good team name but doubt they'd use it.

Would be cool if they go with The Houston Frontier as a team name...

we could be "Frontier 1836".:)

Let's just make sure we keep the three names that have already been discussed and voted upon at the last meeting in the mix. Obviously, people who feel strongly about 1836 feel extremely strongly about it. But let's respect that not everyone feels that strongly. I don't have much doubt about how the vote will turn out, but even when the outcome is virtually a foregone conclusion, it's still important to respect both the process and opinions that aren't in the majority (and by "majority" I mean 50% + 1, not a "Sylvia Garcia Majority" or an online poll "majority" of "roughly 20%" ;) ).

so what happens if one name wins the popular vote, but another wins the electoral college?

It depends on the Hanging Sylvias-- I mean Hanging Chads. ;)

John Wayne would never hang a woman. He'd grab her, give her a big kiss, and win her over to his side. Too bad that's not an option for us!

This is the easiest, biggest, fattest softball I've ever had lobbed into home plate.

Swing away, FuBoy, swing away!

There's no doubt that the name for the supporter's group should be Texian Army 1836.

Beyond that, I expect the biggest coalition within that will be an 1836 Brigade.

I hope we can stick with the army idea and have any number of groups pick brigade names and join the army. I want to see an AEG Sucks Brigade, FuBoy Brigade, Bayou Brigade, Clockwork Orange Brigade, Hinchadas 1836 Brigade etc. Heck, I think it would be cool for other groups, not brigades to also join in, like Davy Crockett's Boys, Deaf Smith's Scouts, The Tejanos of Gonzales, and any other groups that want to join up with the army.

Why do we need so many groups you ask? Small groups as part of a whole are easier to organize, easier to fit into a pub, allow us to build better/closer relationships, and provide better communication throughout the groups and across the army. It also allows small pockets of people who agree on a unique idea to not have to sell it or be shot down by the majority, yet they can still fit in and participate dually under a brigade and the larger flag of Texian Army 1836.

I mean - it would be awesome to have 8-10 brigades of 10-50 people out all tailgating together, flying brigade flags, etc, then all march in together as Texian Army 1836 and fill up the north end. By the time we have a new stadium, we could have 20+ groups/brigades and 5000 people in the north end!

As long as it doesn't become cliqueish. I like 1836 Brigade because it's short and sweet and would look great on a shirt or flag. It also means less explaining of why Texan is spelled Texian both to locals and national media. 1836 Brigade represents what we are: a segment of the fan base at the stadium that fiercely cheers for the team and defies the establishment.

Let's also keep in mind that we're talking about the name for a particular supporters group, not the entire section of the stadium in which all hard core supporters (some in groups, some as free agents) will probably eventually gather.

In, say, Chicago/Houston terms:

Section 8 = North End/Stand

Barnburners = this here group that we're talking about naming 1836 Brigade, Texian Army, Clockwork Orange, or whatever

Trying to get everyone who wants to stand and do their thing in a supporters' area of the stadium (i.e., the North End) to accept calling that entire portion of the stadum something so specific as the Texian Army/1836 Brigade/Clockwork Orange/whatever section won't work.
