US fans need a signal

I think, on the way to Germany, American fans should be noticeable. And as I type that, I just now realize that we would potentially be making ourselves the biggest targets for some nasty whathaveyou. But it would be nice to signal to everyone else you see on the plane, at the airport and in town that you're going to the US game and you are partial to a certain team. And I feel that donning a US jersey is not enough, it's got to be more noticeable than that. Just putting on every piece of US apparel before the taxi ride to the airport is just too much too.

I say it's got to be an Uncle Sam's hat. I don't know where to get one - perhaps a costume shop - but it blocks the view of the person behind you. They have to face you to confront you. They have to ask why. And then you tell them.

Then you know who to talk to on the plane, that guy four rows up who's also going to the Czech Republic game. You can get a chant going together in economy class as the plane lands, or on the train pulling away from the airport. And then at the bar, where all the US fans have gathered via osmosis to block the Italian fans' view of the one television that's showing the game. It goes on all night.

I like it already.

It could work and would be easy to do. Grab one for yourself and take a few extra for people you meet. Could you imagine a crowd of Yanks in BK crowns singing behind the nets?
