As some of u know, I'm not Jol's biggest fan. Consider this! We are sitting 4th in the league with the dogs beying at at heels. This is a time when the players, management and supporters must consolidate and genuinely show confidence, faith and respect in and for each other, and Jol is quoted on the Spurs website as saying, "Spurs can break their wage structure to land Europe's top stars should they qualify for the Champions League". How is this going to affect some of our young talent who are striving to get us into the CL knowing they may well be axed. Sure, all footballers know their career is volatile but surely a good man manager doesn't make this kind of statement at such a critical time in the competition. How say u?

Speaking from experience, the lure of Champions League football does not necessarily bring in "top stars".

I say you haver far too much free time on your hands. Do you analyse your faeces as well?
I mean honestly. Fine you're fuct in the head and don't like Jol. We get that. Trying to make out that this is an error is beyong rationality. Most players think they are the shiznit anyways and have egos almost as large as your sense of insecurity. They aren't going to be worried about other players coming in.

Jol is the best coach we've had since Burkinshaw. That's 20 years.

Personally even if we don't get anyone in our priority must be to qualify for the group stages, even if we get absolutly humiliated from that point onwards the windfall from qaulifiying would be immense.

If I remember right, we got £15M just for being in the group stage, then there is the almost £1M per win during the stage plus something like £300,000 per draw.

As well as about £1 million on the gate for each game. However, you get a big slice of the TV money as champions. If we finished 4th we would probably get less than £10m, but still a considerable sum of money.

In fairness though Everton, haven't been able to sign top players since the 80s. Spurs have signed big players even without the CL. The lure of London, coupled with the CL is something very attractive.

Ah, yes, you're right, I do remember reading something like that, the way it's broke down.
It's not a straight split between 4 teams.
Still, thats a load of money, and surely some wins and draws would not be beyond the Spurs.
Could net close to £20M all told - and thats just for the group stage!

If we qualified I'd fancy us to get out of our group. If Rangers, Benfica, Villareal, Werder Bremen, Ajax etc can then we can, as long as we don't get a ridiculous draw like in with Juve and Bayern.
Obviously we still have masses of work to do to get there but ...

I think it's rather interesting how the 'other' team in your area are doing - shades of the 'pool last season eh?
The further they go, the less likely they'll surely be to field full strength teams in the league towards the end of the season.
Jol, by himself, being a well known continental, would lure some good players.

We don't have the quality to make a mark in the Champions League, yet.
Champions League qualification would be good for raising the profile of the club (so we can attract higher quality players in the future) and for gaining extra finance.
