Squad picked by Ray for the game against Slovakia.

Goalkeepers:

Fabien Barthez (Olympique Marseille)
Grégory Coupet (Olympique Lyonnais)

Defenders:

Eric Abidal (Olympique Lyonnais)
Jean-Alain Boumsong (Newcastle United)
François Clerc (Olympique Lyonnais) *
William Gallas (Chelsea)
Phillipe Mexes (AS Roma)
Willy Sagnol (Bayern Munich)
Lilian Thuram (Juventus)

Midfielders:

Vikash Dhorasoo (Paris SG)
Alou Diarra (RC Lens)
Claude Makelele (Chelsea)
Florent Malouda (Olympique Lyonnais)
Patrick Vieira (Juventus)
Zinedine Zidane (Real Madrid)

Attackers:

Nicolas Anelka (Fenerbahce)
Thierry Henry (Arsenal)
Louis Saha (Manchester United)
David Trezeguet (Juventus)
Sylvain Wiltord (Olympique Lyonnais)

No Franck Ribery. You disappoint me Raymano! Francois Clerc gets his first call up for Les Blues. :)

And if Barthez starts this game - I will lose all hope. Especially after what he did tonight.

And I'm just going to say this, one word - no more, no less - because I think it just says it all...

Boumsong.

Okay let's play a game - who will be the first one to pull out of the squad?

I'm going for the big man - Trezeguet.

Let's go;

Coupet

Sagnol---Gallas---Thuram---Abidal

Makelele-----Vieira

Wiltord------Zizou

Henry----Trez

Simple enough. Maybe give Saha and Clerc some playing time.

noone is going to pull out. that would be too risky and could jeopardize their spot for upcoming matches and ultimately the WC.

But here's my question: Is there favoritism on the part of Domenech towards Lyon players? I cant recall what his connection to the team is now but I know he has one, and it seems like he overlooks players like Ribery and others players from Ligue 1 but just about anyone from OL will eventually get a call-up. I'm not saying Clerc isnt playing well and that he doesnt deserve it but why no Ribery???

No Anelka? Him and Henry did well against C.R.

Because Ribery is so damn ugly!:D In all seriousness I don't know and for sure he has done enough for a call up, especally for friendlies. But theres also no doubt that Clerc has been amazing lately and derserves a chance.

I think he will start if Trez pulls put.

Henry and Trezeguet are the no1 partnership, and given both of their injuries and withdrawls from the squad - it seems like an age that they have played together.

Yeah, but if guys like Henry, Zizou or Trez pull out, their position won't be jeopardised. Those gys are locks for the final 23 in Germany.

For guys like Malouda, Diarra and possibly Saha it does mean a lot to stay in the squad.

Hmmmm, really? Trezeguet is better than Anelka. Both in reality and on the Playstation :p

Yeah, but only if they tell the press that the coach is crap.

Well, I know its hard - because its true and all - but they must show restraint. :p

Besides do we want Pires in the squad? We have a replacement and he is called Franck Ribery!!! :)

Anelka is more versatile.

I'll take either of them to be honest but unfortunately neither of them play for OL.

I would have liked to see both of them too in this friendly. Just to check. But Boumsong, c'mon Rey, it's not like you need to try him again. We already know he's decent, he can be an useful spare tire in defense but that's about it.

If Ribery doesn't get called up for the next friendly or doesn't get selected as a back-up for any withdrawls - I see his chances of being called up for Germany as slim. :(

Let's send out a petition to Domenech!

I'll sign it....but I'm not a wordsmith so someone else will need to write the draft.

Perplexed look. What is so damn special about Ribery?
Really??? He's done zap in the matches I've seen him play. Domenech's selection of 'OL players in my opinion is justifiable. A number of the newer faces will be fighting for spaces on the bench. If you're arguiing to add someone to the mix, it's M. Micoud et non M. Ribery. M. Barthez should be dropped. There are better keepers in France and if Coupet isn't given the job as GK, something is seriously wrong.

but it's not him talking; his statement (and his last two matches) should keep him on raymundo's good side

barthez was far from brilliant last night, and coupet should definitely be n°1 but there will be 3 keepers in germany, so he'll definitely go.
