Hello friends from France!
I think France played better then we today, but from many posts here I have bad feelings, that many people here don't know anything about the Slovak soccer. So, our first goal was by Szilard Nemeth - playing many years for Middlesbrough and before two-three months he was sold to some club in France. Our second goal by Jozef Valachovic - he is playing for Rapid Vienna and he scored also two goals against Lokomotiv Moscow in Champions League this season. And something about the team Slovakia... Is it true, that football is not sport number one in our country, but the football here is growing. Spain crushed us 5-1 in the play-off WC qualification, but do you know, that in the last almost two years it was only second lost for Slovakia? Only two matches 1-5 in Spain and 0-2 in Portugal we lost in almost two years and we finished in our qualification group second, the Russia for example was thrid... Slovakia also beat Germany 2-0 in September 2005... We have lot of players playing in Germany, Russia, Czech Republic, England and other good leagues.... So don't take it so badly , we are not San Marino or Luxembourg... However, France - Slovakia 1-2 is surely a suprising result and for us was also not playing our best players, only few... Our coach was trying some new players from our domestic league also one player from our second slovakian league! I think that your coach was making also the same, I think France will be on World Cup in good form.

Yeah, domenech has been terrible since day one. Some coaches make something out of nothing, other make nothing out of something.
Yes but even with the selection he made France was unfortunate to lose this match ; it' not an excuse I like too much but tonight it was the case. The main thing I hope is that we won't lose twice ie besides tonight's result it won't add an unnecessary and potentially harmful pressure on everyone. Let's not be too negative yet lucid.
BTW, is it me or our strikers tend to be less efficient with the NT ?

Its not just the players that he picks though. Its like someone said, he doesnt get the best out of his players for whatever reason.

Don't take offense buddy. You've got a nice little team, and I was definatly rooting for you against Spain.
But we are bloody well France and we were playing at home. Look at the talent on both teams. It's embarrasing.

Fabien Barthez.
Yeah, I bet those goals went really fast..... With your diminished skills, everything must seem like lightening paced.

Yes, I think France is a great team, but sometimes the better team not win. And it's a big paradox, that we (Slovakia) were playing without our best players and we won today... If this match will be repeated tommorow again, I think France will win.

Well, I believe that there is some kind of issue somewhere...
We struggle against Ireland and Switzerland to qualify to the World Cup, then we draw against Germany (0-0 IIRC), then we got a miraculous win against Costa Rica after having conceded 2 goals, then we lose against Slovakia. Honnestly, I'm sure that Costa Rica and Slovakia area really strong teams, but it seems there are so many strong teams now that France became really an average team.
Seriously, when I see how hard all this has been, I tell you that France will have to struggle to get through its group with South Korea, Switzerland and Togo. It's not done at all. Maybe those teams look weaker than France on paper to some of you, but all of them could surprise France and win. Talking about this, we haven't beaten Switzerland during the qualifiers, why should it be easier during the world cup ?

I am not comfortable that our only hope is "they'll bring thier big game to the World Cup".
Our hopes shouldn't rest on that.
I don't know what other positive there is.
I was following L'Equipe's coverage and I barely saw ANY mention whatsoever of Zidane in the text highlights. Barthez didn't seem to be at fault for both goals, so then what happened? Where was he? Another, How'd we concede two goals? Who's fault was it? L'Equipe said in their review that Thuram was great, so what happened I ask again? Dhorasoo popped up a lot in the text highlights and he seemed to be very involved, but in their overall review said in the second half he disappeared.
*big sigh* I don't know...
I had big hopes w/ Trezeguet in the side that we'd score, but AGAIN, we did NOT.
well, wait, there is another positive, L'Equipe said Anelka and Trez had good communication for not having the partnership much. Is this the first time they've EVER played together (besides Germany?)? I can't recall in the Euro's them playing together or any other time.

There's nothing more counter productive than booing your own players during the match even before they made the slightest error. Another good display of French spirit by some...

*big sigh* I don't know...
In fact, in terms of play, France played quite well (until the 2nd Slovak goal). half way thruogh the first half, the possession was 73-27. Like I said it was almost boring. The thing is when you don't score (even the crappiest of goals) you're always vulnerable.
You can't demand from the strikers that they convert every chances, but at some point they bear some responsability regarding the outcome of the game (read it's not always the GK or the defense's fault).

However, the first thing I conclude from your ball possession stats is that Slovakia played on counters (and succesfully I might add).
Seriously Nanbawan, that team has no confidence. I know that saying it could only make the problem worst but sometimes we must face it somewhere. Once again, qualifying to the 1/8 finals is very far to be granted. Maybe we have good technicians, but there's a lack of chemistry somewhere, a lack of realism.

artmedia fan, i wanted to thank you for posting on this board, nice to see new people...
france dominated the game, it's clear... but hey, it's like psg this weekend... domination does not mean victory ( at least a tie hopefully  )
we just had some tough breaks tonight guys... henry and trezeguet had some GOLDEN GOLDEN chances tonight... we did not play badly, we just did not put the ball in the back of the net...
i would also like to make 2 more points:
1) no one mentioned the amazing skills the slovak goaltender showed... i'm not saying he's a world class goalie everyday, but tonight he showed us what a great goalie is made of... luck and balls went his way tonight, he made some big diving saves and stopped balls just before henry had a shot on it... he even almost saved wiltord's penalty kick :o
2) i streamed the game on my comp through TF1 and the announcers were alright tonight as usual... but what annoyed me the most was how long it took them to realize why most people were booing Barthez... many might prefer coupet now, but i don't think thats why most booed him... so i was screaming at my comp (my roomate thinks i'm weird) saying "its because he's on marseille u dumb nuts!!!!!!"... it took them a long time to finally hear me :D ... i'm not saying i approve of the booing in any way, but at least they finally said it... took them long enough...
basically, tough night for us tonight, but i'm not worried even if i'm not a huge fan of domenech....

I think the public was booing Domenech's selecting Barthez, and less Barthez himself. Regardless. Domenech needs to get a fecking clue. Coupet is miles ahead of Barthez at the moment. I don't know if he's just going through the motions of this "competition" between the keepers, or if he really beleives that Barthez is our #1. I fear it's the latter....:(
