Perplexed look. What is so damn special about Ribery?
Really??? He's done zap in the matches I've seen him play. Domenech's selection of 'OL players in my opinion is justifiable. A number of the newer faces will be fighting for spaces on the bench. If you're arguiing to add someone to the mix, it's M. Micoud et non M. Ribery. M. Barthez should be dropped. There are better keepers in France and if Coupet isn't given the job as GK, something is seriously wrong.
A+,

Ribery is much better than Dhorasoo and Malouda - and imo Ribery is the future. The guys is like what 21, 22?
Micoud, I totally agree with you. He would be a good backup for Zizou.
But in fairness, we want the young talented blood in there as quick as possible.
I don't know what games you have been watching but this guy has been the only plus in a fairly pedestrian Marseille side. You know if he was playing for OL, he would easily be in the setup.
Barthez should not be allowed anywhere near the goal for Les Bleus so long as Coupet is fit and raring to go.

Ribery better than Dhorasoo yes but better than Malouda no way.

Not including Ribery is yet another example of Raymundo's total incompetence.

I would have liked to see both of them too in this friendly. Just to check. But Boumsong, c'mon Rey, it's not like you need to try him again. We already know he's decent, he can be an useful spare tire in defense but that's about it.
Spare tire? More like a tire fire any time he gets stuck in a 1 v 1. The guy is a disaster..

barthez was far from brilliant last night,
This said, he saved Marseille's ass on more than one occasion -I heard during the report- on the away leg to Bolton.

Nobody says Barthez is 100% bad...
... we just say that Coupet is 100% better.

coupet lacks brilliance that barthez has
Fab lacks consistency that Greg has.
'Keeper doesn't need character and Fab's got too much of it.

coupet lacks brilliance that barthez hasyou mean a shiny head?...
coupet is better on balls in the air, he comes up with breathtaking grabs. and he makes great stops too, like VoH's shot in eindhoven. barthez has this rep for being more spectacular, but i prefer the spectacle up front, not at the back!

no ribery, yet clerc is called up bc of one match (albeit a really impressive match) against PSV? Ribery has lit it up frequently this season, and one only has to look at OM's last l1 match to see that he deserves a place on the team.

Clerc has been impressive ALL ALONG since Reveillere got out injured. He really deserves to be called up.

competition for spots in the french defence can only be a good thing. as long as Thuram and Gallas are healthy we should be OK.

UH OH
starting line-up
Just read this of the FFF site:
A l'issue d'une séance d'entraînement dispensée en fin d'après midi, le sélectionneur de l'Equipe de France, Raymond Domenech, a délivré le onze de départ pour affronter la Slovaquie demain soir au Stade de France. Débuteront sur la pelouse à 21h00 : Barthez - Silvestre, Boumsong, Thuram, Sagnol - Dhorasoo, Vieira, Diarra, Zidane (cap) - Anelka, Trezeguet.
Barthez? and silvestre??? are starting

Aside from the Silvestre-Boumsong thing (why?), I'm puzzled by the Anelka-Trezeguet pairing. I suppose this is to keep Titi fresh, but if--as everyone seems to be saying--France will only go as far as the association between Zizou and Titi will take it--we need to see those two together...
Zizou's always been able to find Anelka... Remember Wembley? I wonder if there's a little controversy brewing here...
