Is anyone getting any kind of insurance for their property in Germany??

I want to have my iPod to listen to on the plane and train rides and also to hook up to someone's rental car stereo system and blast "Don't Tread On This" and "America, F*ck Yeah!" in the parking lots before the games but at the same time I'll be staying in hostels most of my time over there which is pretty much asking for it to get stolen. Right now I'm debating whether I'd be better off getting insurance for it, or just getting an iPod Shuffle off Ebay. Any thoughts??

lock your stuff up. Don't leave it unattended at bars in itaewon. You prolly won't get it stolen. Don't blast "Don't Tread on Me" or i'll probably steal it and smash it.

I'm going to Germany with my passport, toothbrush, and underwear. I won't need property insurance. :D

I've got an electronics rider on my renter's policy, so I'm good if the laptop disappears.

I prefer my two-week Biomedics Toric lens for comfort. Can you even get a toric in a daily?

I didn't know Koy Detmer posted on BigSoccer!!

Seriously folks, if you know of a good property insurance company, please provide the link. I've only stayed in youth hostels once and while it was in Germany, it was several years ago and it was part of a school trip so I knew the kids I was staying with. I don't neccesarily trust the random unknown Eurotrash clowns that I'll be rooming with in Dusseldorf and Munich not to steal my crap, so I want insurance.

And Rishi, "Don't Tread on This" is better than "Goals Goals Goals" so deal with it buddy :D

First of all:
If it's small and worth less than about $200, come to terms with its possible loss.

Second:
If you're in school full-time and live on campus, spending your summers back home or at a sublet, call your parents and ask how you're covered under their homeowners' or renters' policy. Pay close attention on stuff like electronics. I mentioned above I've got an electronics rider on my renters' policy--this is because in a household of a web developer and an AV tech, the amount of gear we have on hand exceeds the amount MetLife's normally willing to cover. Oh, be sure to ask about the deductible.

Third:
On your own in an apartment? Holy hell, man, get a renters' policy with a quickness. See above about electronics. I pay about $500/yr for mine through Metlife, but that includes the extra for the electronics, plus I took a hit a couple years back when my upstairs neighbor's washer broke and flooded my kitchen. Call around a couple local insurance offices for some rates. They're a bit expensive, but MetLife have been very good to me for both my renters' and my automobile policies. Plus, hey, Snoopy. Seriously, though, renters' policies are awesome.

Fourth:
Here's a backdoor one. American Express offers good buyer protection benefits for stuff you bought with your card. If you've got an AmEx card and were considering buying some new gear to take with you on the plane, use it and look into their buyer protection stuff if the items are ripped off. I've had to invoke it for some damage to one of my bikes, and they were real nice about it, but that was a few years ago so I don't know their current policies.

Don't think so. To think, for the money I'm spending on this trip, I could get LASIK and never need contacts again.
