I'm new to the game and have visited many of the threads here to learn more about the game. I was just wondering about the "unofficial" cups that I've seen on some of the threads. Can anyone tell me a little about them? Do they occur often? Are newbies welcome?

unofficial cups are cups that anyone puts together, for instance, I'm one of the BS Cup dictators, I help run that cup. Most occur every season, the BS Cup does. Some of the cups have different entry rules that have to be met. For instance, to get into the BS Cup, you have to be in one of the bottom 2 divisions in your country.
Friendly cups are a way to easily get friendlies taken care of without the trouble of searching for a team each week. Some friendly cups offer prizes to the teams that win the division. I know that the BS Cup does not, but there are certain ones, mainly fed cups I believe that will offer prizes to teams that win.
Hope that answers most of your questions.

Keep an eye on the US conferences. People often advertise new cups there. Everybody's usually willing to take a newbie. As long as they're dependable, ie. schedule their games every week as the main purpose of these cups is to arrange friendlies. Not to mention, everyone likes newbies in their cups because they expect an easy win on their way to glory. ;)
The other thing is if you have paid for supporter, you can join a federation (or three) and they often organize cups within their federation.

FYP. We can have 5 now.
And to add to my post if you want to join next seasons BS Cup, pay attention to these boards usually signups start around week 2-3 of the league season when people start getting knocked out of the cup.

BTW, welcome to HT and our little BS forum.
And to become a full fledged BS poster with ad posting priviledges, don't forget to post your team info in the registry thread stickied at the top of the forum.
Sooner or later our resident GM will update his ClubHouse page and you can be immortalized in BS lore.

Yeah, I know it's five. Just wanted an excuse to Kuhnscoot some more. Of course, that's the whole point about Kuhnscooting ain't it? No need for a reason.
