Lehmann all the way. I agree with the observations made above that Lehmann is fitter, more athletic (at this point) and will recover more quickly than Kahn from game to game.

At goalkeeper position Germany has no problem.
It´s tough to choose between Kahn and Lehmann.
There are many good and very good keepers.
After the WC the coach (whoever it will be) should take a younger one,
there are many candidates:
Weidenfeller (who really deserves it IMO),
Hildebrandt, Enke, Wiese, Rensing, ...

This is one department where Germany is the strongest, by a long shot.
You have atleast 4 world class quality keepers
Kahn- Made some vital saves against USA. Top class even if he regains a fraction of his form of 2002.
Lehmann- The reason Arsenal made it past Real Madrid in the round of 16. He pulled some great saves, like the stop towards the end of the second leg from Ronaldo. He has peaked at the right time.
Hildebrandt- I think he holds Bundesliga record for most minutes without conceeding a goal. He was great last season, and has been average this season. But that could be blamed on Trappattoni and his tactics. How is he doing under the new coach?
Weidenfeller- Another great goalkeeper.
Against any of these keepers it is difficult to score a half chance. So if Mertesacker and Metzelder do their part, others will find it difficult to score.

The article was quoted from "11 Freunde" btw, it's not a creation of that site. While I won't join in on the Bayern bashing they do have a point. Imagine Klinsmann fields Lehmann and he does even the slightest mistake, yet alone something like Kahn pulled off in the f'in final 2002. Springer and associated press would tear both of them apart.

its gotta be Kahn, he's a better world cup keeper, and the leadership factor is there. Also how he can carry the momentum. That HUGE save he made against the US right after Schweini scored changed the game totaly. Its gotta be Kahn.

I have to say Kahn as well. Technically they are both pretty even, but I believe Kahn has the edge. I also believe that he is the better communicator and will keep the defense in check. The fact that he already played in the WC is indeed an important asset that needs to be taken into consideration.
Kahn is the ONE.

The goals Bayern have conceded this season are NOT Oliver's fault,
HSV's equaliser at Allianz-Arena?

I voted for Lehmann, still I am not completely sure whether he would be the right choice. IMHO Lehmann is the better keeper.
- He is way better in the air, whereas Kahn doesn't like to leave his goal and if so only trying to box away the ball instead of catching it (his goalkeeping teacher Maier, doesn't like Kahn's way to not catch high balls, btw).
- Plus Lehmann can actually play as a back-up for a flat-four as he is technically really better than Kahn.
- On the other hand Kahn is a little bit stronger on the goalline (still Lehmann can do the same) and maybe stronger in one-on-one's.
That is the pure look onto the performance side and in my book that one is clearly telling us to put our money on Lehmann. Still a world cup is more than just fielding the best players. There are many other factors. Two of them could be in favour of Kahn and make him the better choice. First of all Kahn has still a somehow fear-inducing reputation (though his blunder against Brazil took away major parts of it), that is especially important in one-on-one's and maybe penalties. The second point is that we need all support for the world cup we can get as we are not the best team out there (hahaha). Kahn is Germany's (ugly) darling and Springer and Co. want and need him. So on the press and media pressure side, Kahn would be the easier choice.
Looking at all my arguments, I am still not completely sure who would be the better solution. So in this case I go with a Borussia Dortmund's legend, Adi Preißler: "Wichtig iss auffem Platz" what means "On the pitch is what really counts" -> So it is Lehmann for me!

you live in germany, you don't watch the premiership, lehman is very slow and dives to save the ball that has already gone into the net

according to me Lehmann should be preferred for the tournament.
Kahn is so experinced , too . but Lehmann plays at top performance!

You don't live in Germany, you don't watch the Bundesliga. Kirschstein is an average keeper at maximum. Even struggling to be a regular starter.
p.s.: Premiere broadcasts most Arsenal matches in Germany. I have seen Lehmann over a decade in Germany (including Dortmund), playing for the national team, Arsenal in CL. That should do, I guess. ;-)

i watch bundesliga on fox, lehmann is not tested much at arsenal, lehmann is the reason arsenal will finish outside the top 4 in premier league. his punching of the ball leaves a lot to be desired, instead of punching the ball out of play or as far as possible, he punches it to opponents

It should be ROBERT ENKE imo. However, since this is unlikely I'd prefer Jens Lehmann. We cannot judge our keepers by looking at the past (this is what most Kahn-supporters are doing all the time).

a great point, kahn is not even among top 10 german keepers at present, look the way he played against milan, he also suffers from poor judgement, lehmann can't be trusted he can cause a huge blunder anytime. am always afraid when lehmann is in goal

Ahhh, living in the USA and telling us about EPL. I see........
Still you haven't told me why Kirschstein is such a great keeper. Come on, let us all hear your arguments.
