View Full Version : Why Does Everyone Hate Us?

I mean the Scots hate us but i haven't met an English who gives a crap about them as all they seem to so is cheer on any team thats playing us
In other threads on BS alot of people don't want us in the Final of the WC and think we are bigheaded but i don't know any Englishman that says we'll win the WC apart from the press who only build us up to knock us down to sell papers.
I've also read that some just plain hate us??
Ok if you're German i guess but the rest:confused:
Its not like we even have a dirty team that cheat and dive, our players are some of the most honest in International football which most likely will be our downfall.
Ok sometimes we take the piss out of other teams but we still respect them and always want the USA to like Soccer, we had a tour last summer just to improve interest for the US.
We don't believe we have a right to anything but when people slag us off just because they heard we have egos they might want to look at some of Argies or Australians on here who are in some cases worse than the Scottish in bitterness.

i am american and do not hate the english national team. i beleive some mite be a bit jealous of the english. another thing is you guys sometimes come across as thinking you know it all about soccer. the Epl is the only league that matters, and the national team is that much better than everyone elses besides brazil. other than that i don't know any other reasons to dislike the english.

You will probably dismiss these comments due to my nationality, but here goes. When talking to people (abroad) it usually boils down to England's arrogance and hooligans. Now before you have a dig at that last comment and explain how things have been done to improve it, previous events aren't easily forgiven and the last example of the problem was after the Stoke match on Sunday. Add to that your traditional rivalries and that's why your lot tend to get a rough time on BS and in general.

Im English and I dont think that. I regularly watch the lower divisions in England, and I also follow La Liga, Serie A, the Bundesliga, MLS, and the Dutch league. I would watch more but these are the only things I can usually find on TV or the internet. I also continue to follow the champions league and the uefa cup even when all the English sides are knocked out.

Could part of it be a David Beckham effect? In regards to more recent hatred.
Like, even if the haters don't really realise it, maybe part of it is Beckham.
And I do get an impression that some English are arrogant. Just listen to all the bullshit they spout on BS about the USA and their soccer. But off this board, I get the impression that there is a whole insecurity issue, where they have to make fun of Americans. Their hooliganism and nationalism is probably why so many dislike England NT. I'm not saying it's deserved though.

As an admirer of Lampard, Gerrard, Owen, Defoe, et. al., an alcoholic, a liverpool supporter, and something of an anglophile, I want to like you. Really, I do.
However, as an american of scottish decent, I have no choice in the matter.
Sorry.

Or maybe it's just the allure of complete anonymity? Most english I've met are more pragmatic in their approach to 'merican soccer.

still, better to be universally hated for being arrogant thugs than famed for wearing skirts and inventing tarmac.

for me its becasue of all the england fans I know who act like there such a historically better team then everyone else and are cocky when it comes to English national team football. I obviously and biased because Im German but all my English friends dont give anyone except Brazil credit when all the lions have done is won one world cup, when we have three. If they would realize there not gods gift to earth then maybe I wouldnt hate them so much.

it sounds like the England fans you know haven't exactly spent much of their life in England.
Or they just see you as someone who is very easy to wind up.
Possibly both.
