Hell, you think the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo built itself?? That's my people ;) My mom's family is from Houston for a few generations and my dad's family's from Oklahoma. *sigh* Dad was a pitcher in high school, Hank Aaron was mom's hero . . . you know, that old chestnut? :D

Ya Okie! But your mom was at least kinda/sorta a Braves fan then.

I was seriously raised on Houston baseball. I was crawling with a baseball bat and glove; pointy ball just doesn't mean the same to me. My dad had 3 daughters, we were all on different baseball teams, and he coached them ALL. <*Cue* Guitar strumming tejano-style and 3 small girls in bright orange jerseys, walking down a . . . dusty . . . Astrodome . . . concourse > Anyway . . . Went to the Dome with my dad in the summers and sipped on lemonade and watched Mike Scott pitch during the eighties. Went to New Orleans Zephyrs (Astros farm team) home games in the nineties and watched Stros games from a sports bar in New Orleans while in University (I ran the Tulane baseball home scoreboard for 2 seasons, too.)

I went to the dome once, back in like... 1992 or something. I just remember the Oilers were still there. First time I had ever seen Astroturf in person.

I love my Stros now more than ever -- they tend to win now, omg!! -- but Cox Cable is evil and refuses to broadcast Astros games at reasonable prices in Florida. I love my Astros (if you hadn't noticed).

I got a subscription for the second half of last season and plan to do the full season package this time around. I don't see their regular season pricing up yet though. It's great for out of market fans though.

You're damn skippy, Achtung. Those uniforms are hooooot. No, literally, bright orange gets seriously hot under the SE Texas sun.

The Houston Astros gave the world two of the greatest postseason games in baseball history -- the 1986 15-inning NL-division-series gut-wrenching loss to the Mets :( and the 18-inning "Yes-Timmy,-Roger-Clemens-IS-God" 2005 defeat of Atlanta.

Really? I'm more partial to Sid Bream's slide and........

Walt Weiss.... 1999 NLDS.

Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim...formerly known as the Anaheim Angels...formerly known as the California Angels.

Has been and will always be my team despite the stupid name changes.

Ah yes, I know them. Translation, The Angels Angels.

I can't really get excited yet, so I'll leave it at this: Go Red Sox.

Everyone knows the Bad News Bears are gonna win it all this season. Tanner showed up to spring training in great form...he's gonna have a great season. Ogilvie, yeah he's back. And Kelly Leak, well what can I say... Kelly Leak > Babe Ruth. I could go on and on. ;) :D

VR and Achtung, we may have issues next time we hang. GO YANKS! And all I want them to do this year is suck less than last year.

I've got tickets to all the Sunday home games with a few buddies of mine and we always do tailgates up big. If anyone catches a Sunday Yanks game, you're more than welcome to stop by.

You're obviously still hurt about the Bombers moving to Greenville.

Truly a great moment in baseball history, one so often overlooked. Its weird to think how much I hated the Pirates back then.

Made it so much sweeter in 1993 when Barry Bonds went there and the Braves made a miraculous comeback to win the division. :D

How well does this work for you Achtung? How many games do you usually get and how clear do they come through?

I don't really have a team in baseball, but since I'm stuck in a sea of Red Sox fans, I guess I have to support them over other teams. :o

My cousin was in the Baltimore Orioles system for a few years, so I rooted for them I guess. He finished last season at their AAA affiliate. He's switched to the Phillies farm system this year and is waiting to see if he's being sent to AA or AAA.

Go Phillies! :)

Other than that, I only think about baseball when I go from Warp 7 to Warp 9 too fast.

My uncle played for the Frederick Keys.

My cousin is Joey Hammond and he played for the Keys a few years... they liked to use him on alot of their calendars and stuff cause he's from Frederick and he looks like an average ball player type guy...

I haven't gone to a Keys game since he got sent up to Bowie though...

My uncle is also from Frederick.....but he played for the Keys in the early 1970's, IIRC.

To be more accurate though, he's my former uncle as he's no longer married to my mom's sister. Still a cool guy though and I still see him when I visit my cousin in Frederick.

It works pretty well. Quality isn't crystal clear, but its certainly good enough to watch the games at a decent size and buffering is at a minimum. Much cheaper than MLB Extra Innings too. For the Red Sox games, I get pretty much all of them except the Saturday afternoon games that Fox has the right to, and anything that is shown on the local Chicago channels, when they play the Cubs or White Sox.

What are your thoughts on getting Thome for Rowand? Most fans I've talked to seemed not to like it, but I thought it was a decent deal even if Rowand is supposed to be an up and coming star.

I really liked Rowand, but we already have Brian Anderson who tore the cover off the ball in minor leagues, plays defensively as well as Aaron, and is a lot cheaper at this stage. Plus, we lost Frank and Everett in the offseason, meaning that Paulie was gonna be the only major HR threat in the middle of the line-up without any protection. I am not that worried about his health, as he is gonna be DH in 95% of the games.
So yeah, given the circumstances, all in all, a good deal.
And at this point we have 6 starting pitchers, any of whom potentially could be #1 for any other team. The key is to stay healthy.

Might be something interesting to save up for.

I wish the Premier League had a service like this.

Well, they definitely have the technology to offer it, but the sat companies would probably be against it, if they couldn't offer the content themselves. I mean, if they can block non-UK IP's from accessing radio content on Century FM and the Beeb, they should be able to open the non-UK IP's only to access the new content if they're concerned about affecting attendance of the other EPL teams and lower divisions....
