Instead of watching the game I was listening to Judas Priest this evening. I win!
"Running Wild" would be appropriate in this instance...:(

Maybe just a thought...maybe play flat 3 backs next time? There would always be 3 men back there, maybe have 2 wingbacks going up and down and not having to worry too much about tracking back...
Germany doesn't have the speed or experience in defense to play the attacking football Klinsi wants to play. There's no way around that.

Not yet anyways, especially not with this breed of tall slow CB's that Germany is producing....

Which is why Klinsi should nominate Kehl who has the experience and start Metzelder, who is at the very least, faster than probably Huth. Although that is debatable and probably a moot argument, because they both suck at the moment. ;)

Dude, you aren't getting it. Germany simply doesn't have the speed OR TALENT in defense to play the way Klinsi wants to.
The faster he realizes that, the better for Germany........

Can you believe this. I've followed almost all Germany matches over the last years, apart from
Germany vs England 2002
Romania vs Germany 2004
and tonight.
It's all my fault obviously.
I wonder how Woerns feels now... :D

You know... I don't know. I taped it for viewing later, and have been busy here at work to see what happened. I think a lot of fans wanted to see other players, but that's how these pre-WC games go. It's not like the real thing.
I think the weather was rotten as well.

Hope I didn't just give the result away :o Sorry if I did.
The Germany game is serious though. This is Klinsmann's first squad. Ouch. Maybe we should have got a defender as assistant coach...

I agree. This flat 4-4-2 today is not working with the players at hand.
A 3-5-2 would probably suit the players better. Three defenders at the back is better than two central defenders in a 4-4-2 that are regularly exposed as their full backs are meant to attack. Better play with two wingbacks in a five man midfield, with two DMs behind a CM.
Something like this:
-------------Forward----------Forward
--Lahm/Schweinst.-----Ballack---------Schneider/Deisler
------------Borowski-------------Frings
-------------DF-----------DF-----------DF
---------------------------GK
I don't get why Klinsmann is sticking to his 4-4-2 in almost every game. It's not making sense. This is worse than his sticking to Huth, imo.
BTW, Deisler played really really bad today. That loose ball, no crosses in 90 minutes, total lack of concentration. Everybody is criticizing Huth when he wasn't even the worst player and even scored a goal.

Having thought about this game a bit, guys, the one conclusion
I'd draw in your shoes is: sack Klinsmann. I admire his desire to
create an attacking team, but his tactics were just suicidal, Italy
was not so much dominating as exploiting Germany's mistakes.
I see a real need for a top defensive midfielder (Hamann?) in the
German midfield, and some technical defenders who can soak up
counter-attacks. Until that sort of player is available, I can't see
the wisdom of this all-out attacking formation ..........
Sorry if that looks like trolling. :o

don't worry, I added "Multiple R's" to the title.
Well, we knew the defense was the weakest link anyway. I don't mean to poo-poo all of it, but I am not as pessimistic. What we can hope for, is that Klinsi takes this ass-kicking to heart and comes out with some better ideas.

Congratulations on Italy's win. I didn't watch it, but sounds like you played very well. Also based on the result in Holland, you must be one of the top favourites now.
As for Hamann, he's too slow now. I would have liked to see Woerns in there (who's also slow, but playing ok at the mo - probably the best German CB). Looks like we're going to shoot ourselves into the foot, as we did with Effe before. In this state, Germany will lose against England or (probably) Sweden in the second round.
