I know this is an embarrassing question, being from Mississippi and especially MSU but, are Grisham's books interrelated in any way?
Also, what did you think about the Firm? It's decent so far I'm slightly confused right now, but I guess thats the point.. a little mystery.
No, they aren't...
I thought the Firm was very good. However, its the ONLY book I've been able to enjoy to the fullest despite seeing the film first. As a rule I never do this, but I saw the firm when I was pretty young, before I got into Grisham.
Also, Grisham has a great book called the bleachers... a must read of his imo...
Pretty much all of Grisham is required reading if you like Lawyer based mysteries. He's one of the few big names who never got commercial and diluted. Alot of fresh really different books.
If anyone likes Espionage I highly recommend Ludlum's early work... ugh... going to have to re-read the Trevane novels now.
Almost forgot... the book I just finished was Bloody River Blues Billy and SirM - this might interest you... its about a location scout (for movies).

So recommend after I finish my Grisham (will be soon I'm about half way through) or not worth the time? Recommended, but it's like reading folktales or myths. Reveals alot about the culture of Iraq circa 1000-ish AD, but can be a little weird. Imo, it's one of those essential background reads; it has the stories of Aladdin, Ali Baba, and Sinbad and genies in bottles and some other things you sort of hear about again and again.
Plus, it's a little more interesting reading these days in light of world events -- you'll see a character So-and-so "al Basra", and you know where he is. Almost all of the stories take place at least partially in Baghdad as well.

Clive Cussler is not great literature but it is really really fun to read, I plan on reading Iceberg sometime in the near future (have read two of his others already and am trying to go in chrono order).

Pretty good so far, though I just started yesterday. Not what I was expecting, as it's not in the form of a modern novel with character development and the like. It's almost like journal entries or something.

I remember reading that as a kid and loving it. It's one that I plan to re-read sometime to see what I think now that I'm a bit older.

A book I'm currenlty reading: "Brick Lane," by Monica Ali. Plus about half a dozen other books I started but haven't finished. Damn!
A book I highly recommend: "The God of Small Things," by Arundhati Roy.
Oldie but goodie: "To Kill a Mockingbird," by Harper Lee.
Posthumously published goodie: "A Confederacy of Dunces," by John Kennedy Toole.

I very rarely read, even when required to for uni. The last book I touched was 'The Singularity Is Near: When Humans Transcend Biology' by Ray Kurzweil. I cannot remember the last time I read any fiction. Guess I grew up and embraced the third millennium. :p

I can make out Howard Dean, Al Sharpton, Wacko Jacko, Eminem, Ted Kennedy (?), and Barbra Streisand. I take it this book isn't too kind to those of the liberal persuasion.
