I'm reading a book called "Once in A Lifetime" right now. It's about the New York Cosmos, the team in the North American Soccer League in the 1970's that had Pele, Beckenbauer, Carlos Alberto, Chinaglia (sp). It's a great story about the rise and fall of that team, and how at one time soccer was filling Giants Stadium on a regular basis (mainly because of its "hip"ness and star power back then, but still.)
Anybody that's in the states, the movie that was made off this book is going to be aired on ESPN tomorrow night, and I heard it was very good.

So you're just up in the middle of the night reading Chaucer? :D
I can't remember which tale it is, but I like the one where the two students show up and cuckold the wife and daughter at the same time while the husband and baby are in the room. Then they end up stealing his bag of wheat or whatever it was.
I also enjoyed the one where the guy got his ass burned by the poker.

I haven't yet begun to touch it, but it's considered by many to be the finest history book ever written.

Are you talking about Russian history books, or all history books?
My library appears to have a copy, so I think I might pick it up tomorrow. Perhaps if you are going to read it, we could compare notes along the way?

It's considered one of the best history books, period. It's that good.

It's my brother's book. He studies Russian history/culture but when I have time I always read it. (always ends up being in the summer) It's a big book by the way but also a fantastic read.
