I just finished Ronaldo's book, which didnt take too long... But I liked it. My favorite part is at the end of it:

" 'Have you herd my new chant?' I asked Alex Ferguson on the day of the day of the West Ham game, the last game of the championship, the game after which we were crowned champions, during which I remained on the bench up until the second half. 'I do.' He answered. 'He plays on the left, he plays on the right, that boy Ronaldo...' And he reproduced the words of the song that fans sing. 'No, no.' I told him. 'The new one is different, do you want to listen? It goes like this: He plays on the bench, he plays on the bench...' Ferguson could not help himself, and let out a loud laugh."

The he explained that he understood that it was good that he was rested, but he still didnt like it.

Shockingly, he argues that philosophers must rule in order for their to be justice in society. Go fig. ;) Really though, it's about everyone doing their part well for a just society to work, and there's a corresponding argument about how an individual person functions with the same kind of balancing of all it's parts. Of course, his argument falls apart today, with contemporary notions of social egalitarianism and near universal opposition to institutions like slavery. But still, you have to love Plato; he's fun to read.

I'm almost finished with this book, and I'd highly recommend it. It's a sort of biography of an American medical doctor and anthropologist working to serve the rural poor of Haiti, and later to tackle drug-resistant TB in places like Peru and Russia. It's really interesting, and seems like it would appeal to a variety of readers. I think sdotsom needs to read it, and others interested in going into the medical field. It's pretty moving from a humanitarian one-person-can-change-the-world kind of place, as well as dealing with global and "third world" politics.

I just found this book called 'Gone Fishin' by Walter Mosely and it's a pretty good read. It's set in 1939 and it's about 2 black guys and how they go to the country to get some money for a wedding. The relationship between Easy and Mouse is an intriguing one but I'm still not sure where the story's going. I'd still recommend it to anyone as it's a good book to read when you're bored.

Interesting book about the buildup of Islamic extremism in the UK over the last 3-4 decades. The book is a lot more "right" than myself, so this is partially a read and partially me just trying to digest the other half's view of this issue.

Looks interesting, might need to read the back and then pocket it like passer-byers wallets.
