Umberto Eco. Foucault Pendulum.
Absolutely superb book. Already planning to get The Name of the Rose after I finish this one. Recommend it to everyone who liked Dan Brown's Da Vinci Code or Angels and Demons. The text is pretty challenging (you may have to do some research if you are really into it), but it's well worth it.

Saph, knowing your Italian connections, I wonder what your take on Eco is?Never read Eco. I know him from literary theory (he's big on Reader-response and Semiotics--basically the idea that the audience of the reading and context of the words as they are read makes the meaning of the text, rather than some authorial intention).

I read a summary of "Foucault's Pendulum" now; it looks like something I would like.

I think my favorite Italian author is Italo Calvino. I read "If on a winter's night a traveler" awhile ago, and it was bizarre and fantastic.

Now I just have to figure out what it all means. :p

I read that twice in high school....once for fun, and then for class.

Haruki Murakami's "After the Quake", a selection of short stories

John Milton's "Paradise Lost". Somehow, I'm always reading this. Just recently ran through the Bible's Genesis and it brought me back to it. One of my favourite poems of all time, I always carry an old battered copy in a bag with me.

Calvinho is next on my "to read" list :) I've read several articles about Eco and Calvino's name was popping up occasionally as recommended reading for those who enjoyed Eco's books. I think it works both ways, so when you get a chance, you should check it out.

Yeah I have to read it for English and for the most part it is insanely boring. I don't like it that much.

Just finished reading this it's an interesting view into Afganistan before the Soviet Rule.. Trying to acclimate to life in America and the differences in the country and the people after the Taliban takes over...

It's a work of Fiction but it written with knowledge of theses events....

About to finish re-reading Empire Falls and then looking for something new. I've been in a funk for new books lately, which is why I've resorted to re-reading. I just noticed that The Yiddish Policeman's Union is due to come out in April. Just need a book or two to tide me over until then.

Yeah, I put Chekhov aside for the day. I read about 100 pages of "Journey into the Whirlwind" today, as well as about 80 pages of this...

Plus, I also read some Chaucer. That's just the life of an English major though. I rarely have a chance to read what I want anymore.

I'm reading Herzog by Saul Bellow right now. One of my favorite authors, but for some reason, I'd never read this work in his catalog right now.

Slow going, but that's because I read case law all day at work. When I get home, I just want to turn on the boob tube, sip some scotch, and relax. I'm turning into a yuppie :(.

I finished Samskara yesterday, and will finish Journey into the Whirlwind tonight. Then, hopefully, I can get back to my Chekhov.
