My favorite war novels are Catch-22 (about WWII) and Hemingway's For Whom the Bell Tolls, about the Spanish Civil War. I'm normally not a big Hemingway fan, but FWTBT is excellent.

Just finished Remarque's All Quiet on Western Front - also an excellent book on the subject. If you liked Catch-22, there's a good chance you'll like this one as well.

Starting to read Fowles - The Collector...

I'm sad to say that I started it but never finished it. Maybe I'd just had enough of Frank Bascombe. Let me know when you finish it if you think it's worth revisiting.

That could be a while -- I just started and haven't had much time to read lately. But the first two Basombe books were just amazing, so I'm sure this will be worth the read as well.

I am extremely tempted to buy Bobby Charlton's autobiography this week. The chapter(s) concerning Munich and big Dunc I will be the most interested in..

Has anyone else read it?

Bill Simmons is pretty much the man. His podcasts on ESPN.com are awesome as well.

not quite but actually I found this to be a very good book..especially if you have to do Roman literature for your studies.

Yup. I think you can just subscribe to them on Itunes. I did that for PTI, which is my favorite sports show period, since I now work when it comes on. They have the whole show as a podcast, which is great.

The last Sports Guy one was pretty good, with the SNL guy. He really seems to be living the life - his podcasts almost remind me of a sports version of Entourage. Watching games with buddies, being famous enough to get into some of these events, etc. It's nice.

He had a great column about the EPL last season, when he was trying to pick a team to support. If I remember correctly, he came up with Spurs..

He did come up with Spurs, which is the team I would have suggested. Then Oden/Durant happened and he never really followed up on it.

I wouldn't mind having Bill Simmons' life, except the living in California part.

"except the living in California part"?? God I would love to be able to go outside even in the winter without having layers of scarfs and gloves on. I am sure your good lady wife would not quite have the same opinion..:D

I thought he did a thing about Oden/Durant where he suggested that Durant should have gone number 1. Then when Oden had his injury, he brought it up again...

My woman is from Brooklyn. She'll be happy if we never leave. Plus, we both like the winter.

Simmons mentioned that he didn't follow the EPL because college basketball was too entertaining last season, primarily due to Oden/Durant. Hopefully, he'll get back into it once football is over.
