I already posted something similar on the other board, but figured it would be more appropriate here.
How hard will it be to scalp tickets in Germany? I'm assuming that there will be sellers on the grounds for each game. How much would I have to pay for crappy seats to something like US-Italy? What about something less attractive like Costa Rica-Japan?

Knock-out round matches would likely be more expensive, even if the teams are less attractive:)

Unless you are trying to get into a very popular match, you will likely be able to pick up a stray ticket or two at the match site shortly before the match or on the way to the match. That has been my experience at each and every one of the past 5 World Cups. However, it will likely not be as easy as in the past in light of the fact that Germany is so much more accessible to the rest of the world (primarily europeans) than was Mexico, Korea, etc. Nonetheless, it is inevitable that some people will have extra tix and thus it would be valuable to you to make friends in the hotels, on the trains, etc. There will be people with extra tix who do NOT want to deal with brokers, who do not like haggling on the street, are afraid of undercover cops, etc etc and thus will part with tickets for face value the day of the game. Just make it known that you are looking for tix.

So I take it you guys don't really think they'll be checking the ID of each and every person going into the stadium against the names on the tickets?

In a word, NO.

The German FA has already made it clear they want the maximum number of BIS (butts-in-seats). Imagine the response if they had stadiums that looked a quarter-emtpy becuase people were being turned away at the gate - imagine the pandemonium when the riot starts...
It will take long enough to get into the venue after security checks - imagine how long it will take when they have to check every ticket against a passport - and how backed up it will get when names don't match.
I think this is a ploy to try and prevent scalping, but I don't think it will be implemented on game day.
The downside is too great.

How much did you pay for these tickets just before the match?
It's going to be really annoying if there are tons of empty seats at these games, because scalpers are trying to sell CAT 3,4 tickets for like $500 a pop. Not to mention if will reflect poorly upon FIFA ticketing and distribution.

The best trick is to just wait until right when the game is starting, or even a little after. Then those $500 tickets magically start selling for around face value. (I would also imagine that a larger percentage of people selling tickets at a World Cup game would be planning on attending themselves as opposed to say an NFL playoff game, where there is the usual crowd of established scalpers who make their money and then go home. Most people who bother to make the trip will probably be going into the game, meaning they will be even more eager to dump their final tickets as game time nears).
