Hi all ! ... I have a plan of taping all of the WC matches this year and make as many copies of them as possible in a great quality recording from a high definition source and sell them here on BS or eBay, is it an illegal thing to do ? if it is, which party will be the most concern ?.. i need some legal advice here, pls let me know... thanks.

Your plan is illegal because you do not own the rights to the World Cup games that you propose to sell. In effect, you're stealing someone else's property. Both e-bay and BS would immediately remove you from their sites.

I don't think they will find it out and have no time to check on that, by the way i recently bought the 48th Grammy Awards Show dvd on eBay and it was a home recording with all of commercial ads in it, so obviously people do that thing all the time.....

In 2002 I taped every match of the WC. I managed to stay out of jail at least for that. It is illegal but who would rat me out-)?
I evan took off the tag that said "Don't remove under peanilty of law" from my matress and still stayed out of jail even for that.
But if you did it they would put you in the can for sure.

Well if it's any indication.
I had clips up of the goals from the last WC for folks to view from the US games.
And I received an email telling me to terminate the use of the clips from FIFA and their licensed video broadcaster or face legal action.

If i copy thousands of them and have own website to sell them, that will be different story. By the way, i've just bought a copy dvd software and plan to make copy of my movie collection and sell them on eBay, i hope i'll be staying out of jail ...

Sure, go for it. Just be honest about it and in your Profile put "Thief".

Aww little billy just got a new burner and had an entrepreneurial idea. Pretty much what you plan to do is very illegal.

People rob banks all the time and get away with it so I guess we should all rob banks. And if your going to risk jail time buying stolen property you might want to raise your standards of what your buying.
Its funny when people do stupid things and even better when they get caught. Just make sure to watch your backside while your on the inside.

It is illegal. Just pay attention to the legal disclaimer that you hear/read during the broadcast. It's called Copyright Infringement. ESPN/Univision paid $425 million for the broadcast rights until 2014 (World Cup, Women's World Cup, Confederations Cup). If you sell maybe 5, you probably won't get caught. But if you sell tons of it, you'll probably be getting a phone call or even a nice visit from the authorities.
By the way, eBay does shut things down. It takes them a while to figure it out, but they do shut it down ...

let's see, the legal advice would be you'll doubtless be breaking several laws, many of them federal (copyright infringement, mail fraud, wire fraud, tax evasion perhaps).
And you may very well get away with it or you may be sued by FIFA, ABC/ESPN, and E-Bay, pay thousands in legal bills, and go to jail for several years hundreds of miles from where anyone can visit you.

Good - those royalties will come in handy when the people who own the rights to the WC sue your miserable butt for millions. Did you ever hear of music download lawsuits? They don't want you in jail, they want MONEY.
Oh, and put me down for a copy of your book. I'll scan it, and sell the copies for $2 less than you do, and I'll make the money!

I know where you got that idea from. Some guy and his wife had a ton of old movies in their collection. They have not even sold them all on ebay as yet and are already up a cool Million. They are not making copies they just selling what they have bought over the years. They also check every copy before they send them to make sure they are still viewable.

Try reading this with a Russian accent. Pretty funny!

Excellent pollywood, you may have hit the nail on the head.
With a Russian accent, you don't go to jail, you just start using the second alternate spelling of your last name.

Don't do it unless you enjoy being in prison.

nobody has asked the obvious question yet: why would anybody spend money to buy a copy of the Grammy Awards?
