Manchester City are ready to double Stuart Pearce's wages in a bid to stop him becoming England manager. (News of the World)
First of all it is reported that SP would be delighted in talking to the FA and then does an about face - as even reported on the club's official website. Now this.
He hasn't even seen a full season as a club manager and some idiots are talking up as the next England manager?
For what SP has done for the club and the way he is building a young squad with limited funds, he deserves financial reward from the club. But not to stop the FA from trying to get him.

If Pearce does have an involvement in the English national team, then it will be just as an assistant at the moment. I can't see Pearce becoming the manager because he doesn't have enough experience and I don't think that the FA would risk it, but certainly an assistant role would be good and he can stay at Man City. If he does get the assistant role, it won't affect Man City or anything.

Except that an assistant would automatically become a prime candidate for the top job after a couple of years, especially if whoever replaces Sven stumbles.
I agree with you that there is little chance of Pearce getting the England job in the near term, but if he gets any kind of secondary position with the FA, City would be smart to begin grooming a potential replacement.

Pearce: I could leave for free
By Alex Livie - Created on 25 Feb 2006
Stuart Pearce has revealed that he could be lured away from Manchester City for free, comments which are sure to alert The Football Association.
The FA are actively seeking a replacement for the departing Sven Goran Eriksson and Pearce is one of a clutch of names being bandied around.
Likely targets are sure to be in gainful employment and on decent contracts, which would force The FA to shell out a sizeable sum in compensation to land their man, but Pearce has revealed that he could be signed for nothing.
Pearce says he is working without a contract at Eastlands and does not intend to sign one.
"I have not signed a contract because it is not worth the paper it is written on," Pearce told The Sun.
"There is one, but I've insisted on clauses that would mean I could leave for free and they would not have to pay me if they got rid of me.
"I did not cost anything when I became manager, so why should the club get a million or two if I went somewhere else? By the same token if the club does not want me to be the manager, I don't want a pay-off.
"I'd rather they gave the money to the next manager to spend."
Pearce claims he has an excellent relationship with City chairman John Wardle and is not looking to force the club into handing him a bumper pay hike.
"If the chairman said to me tomorrow 'Do you want more money?' I would say no," he added.
"From the outset he could have offered me much less than I'm earning because I was untried.
"If he offered me more now I would say no because the money he gave me was more than generous.
"At times in life you have to have trust between people.
"If that trust is broken then I view that person in a different manner.
"Bits of paper mean nothing. I have an agreement based on a handshake.
"The relationship I have with the chairman is based on honesty and loyalty and means a great deal to me."

Don't worry  Pearce won't leave Man City this summer - well I seriously doubt it. The reason he probably said it is to show the trust that he and Man City have together - "The relationship I have with the chairman is based on honesty and loyalty and means a great deal to me." - That proves it really. He won't just leave the club and I think he would only leave if there is a huge argument between the chairman and Pearce. It sorta shows the huge faith between the chairman and the manager.

Your right there! Will probably be four straight defeats after Saturday when we play Chelsea...
