Just an FYI... The DUS airport is right next to the train station. I'll know more about it after I fly there in March!

I'll be flying into Dusseldorf and staying there for the nites of 6/11 and 6/12. Are there particular sites that I should check out while there?

I am interested in taking a day cruise down the Rhine from Dusseldorf before I head out to Amsterdam. Does such a thing exist? I would appreciate any info or opinion about this option. Thanks.

For those flying out of Atlanta on the 10th (I'm on Delta 24 at 4:10pm) I'd like to organize a pub meeting for the England-Paraguay match at 9am. Maybe afterwards head to the airport and catch Tri-Swe.

I flew in and out of Dusseldorf this week for the friendly in Dortmund.

If you stay at the Holiday Inn Ratingen, they give a free airport shuttle. However the hotel is close to the airport, and thus not close to the city. We had to split cab fares of 25 euros each way just to get downtown (Old Town).

The airport itself is very nice, very organized and easy to navigate. One mistake we made (thanks to confused conductors), is that the morning we headed to Dortmund, we took the free airport shuttle back to the airport, exited at the arrivals area, and hopped on the S-Bahn to take us to Dortmund. However we were told that we should take the S-Bahn to Dusseldorf Hbf and then catch another train to Dortmund. Well, there are two stations at the Dusseldorf airport, and after hopping on a train to Dusseldorf Hbf, we then hopped on a Dortmund Hbf-bound train which stopped at, you guessed it, Dusseldorf Flughafen (airport).

Moral of the story is, to catch longer trains to other cities, exit the arrivals area, take the free 471 airport bus to the Flughafen train station, and from there you can take trains to all other cities, without backtracking to Dusseldorf Hbf (central).

are providing bus service from Parking area 4:

I'm flying a day before you other ATL folks, arriving June 10. And now I'm excited, because today I finally got a ticket for the Czech game. Right now it looks like I'll be solo until the rest of my group arrives the following weekend, so I'll be looking to find some of you other fans to hang with and go to Gelsenkirchen in the 12th. I'm planning on staying in Dusseldorf those first few nights.
