I love to cook, but sometimes its just nice to hire a chef to do it for you. Holy_Joe, you should definitely hire one at least for a bit, you won't be sorry

False. If someone is asking whether a private chef is worth investing in, it is always a resounding yes.

Hah. I'll take you out for a drink when I move to Aberdeen in September, perhaps I'll be nice and give you those pictures back.

I HATE GNOCCI... ugh... disgusting!

Well, not disgusting, but unpleasant. Maybe I don't hate it, I just find it bleh and ick. I'd eat it if I was REALLY hungry or I didn't want to hurt someone's feelings.

I'm quite rubbish. I can make channa masala and a decent curry, but usually I'm too lazy or can't be arsed to cook. So I eat a grilled chicken breast off my Foreman and maybe a can of soup or some beans. Quite healthy, takes approximately 1 minute of preparation, and I'm so boring that I'm fine with eating the same thing every single night.

yicky...

couldn't do that.

Indian Curry and British Curry are so different from the curry we make in the caribbean. Hell, Jamaican curry is different from Trinidad curry (although not as vastly different as the stuff from other regions).

I love curry though... curried chicken with channa and aloo is the first meal I learned to prepare... its a staple in Trinidad along with Pelau - which is a 1 pot meal that consists of beef/chicken, rice and pigeon peas.

Pelau is pretty cool, its quick and tasty. You've got to burn some sugar in a pot with some oil in it, once its bubling up then add the meat that has already been seasoned (usually, salt, lime, chives, onions, garlic and pepper) and let the meat get some colour... add a little water to it and let the meat cook for like 15 minutes or so by itself then add more water, rice and peas, stir it up and let it cook until the rice is properly cooked. People often use coconut milk in place of some of the water. A truly delicious meal...

I know what I'm making for dinner :D

Yummay. :) I've never tried the burning sugar thing; that sounds fun.

What is a good substitute for pigeon peas if I can't find them? I think they have them canned at my grocery store, but something about canned beans kinda grosses me out. Or is the flavor special enough that I just need to buy the canned?

We'll be meatless for the rest of the week, but I can't wait to burn some sugar and try this recipe in a few days.

Why do all of our conversations in this thread resort back to curry? It seems to me that you people love nothing but curry. what happened to the other amazing spices like saffron and rosemary. Why doesn't anyone talk about making meals with these spices.

I use the canned ones myself, and I think they're fine. I mix them in with rice boiled with coconut milk and a whole scotch bonnet pepper and it comes out very tasty.

Nothing quite like fried bananas w/ maple syrup (added before frying), along with some strawberries in between two slices of French toast, with a little bit of sugar on top.

Got to get some proper food into me first though, so I am about to throw some chips in the frier, and I've got chili steak from the local butcher (always go local), some sour cream and a few pitta breads to grill and put all of this in the middle of.

Thad does sound good. I love simple cinnamon on pineapple and then grilling it to perfection. One of my favorite desserts ever.
