The U.S. roster now has European-based players in every position. Such as goalkeepers Tim Howard of Manchester United and Kasey Keller of Borussia Moenchengladbach; defenders Cory Gibbs and John O'Brien at ADO The Hague; midfielder Claudio Reyna at Manchester City; and strikers Brian McBride of Fulham and Jemal Johnson of Blackburn.
Jemal Johnson? The only way he's going to see the world cup is if he gets cable. Only a fetish for Europe-based players would get his name into the article.
Love DMB's confidence, though.

Yeah Jemal Johnson...he's never played for any of our teams.

The Indiana-born Beasley's first impression of Dutch life - where marijuana is sold openly in cafes - came in July 2004 when he was greeted by billboards of naked women driving in from the airport.
"That was my biggest shock," Beasley said. "I was like, is this really happening?"
lmao..is he for real?

really enjoyed this article, thanks for posting it. I love the confidence and attitude that LD and DMB are bringing to the WC. They are both on the same page, they are going to win, not just to enjoy themselves. The cool thing is that they believe that they can win.

Word.
good article. Glad to see Beas is not ready to settle for anything. Wants to WIN the World Cup, believes he can win, and wants to improve himself and play in the La Liga or the EPL.
He has heart!

I was most disappointed in hearing about the racism. That's really too bad and it appears to be a huge problem in Europe, though I've been hearing more about it in Italy. I wonder if Lee Nguyen is getting similar treatment. If I did, I would beat some serious racist hooligan ass.

About 10 years ago at Reading there was a very small group of extremely violent neo-Nazis who associated themsleves with the club (though they were mainly associated with Chelsea). This group is defunct now (after they were inflitrated by a reporter which led to prison terms for sevral of them), but at the time they were not the main problem, what was a much bigger problem is people who thought it was acceptable to use monkey calls to try and put off black players from the opposing team. In England a campaign to elimate this kind of behaviour has been run with great success, there is zero tolerance of any kind of racist behaviour.
I'd say around Europe the problem is the same, whilst there are neo-Nazis active in football their impact is not huge, what is much more prevalent is using racist behaviour to put players off. This is not acceptable and I'd like to see a much harder line taken against especially in Spain and Italy.

The USA needs players with confidnece if they don't believ they can go out and beat the likes of Italy and the Czech Republic they will crash and burn. Clearly they have these players. The only problem could be over-confidence and complancy, the USA has players with comparitvely modest ability and it needs to raise it's game against these sides. It can't be looking at it's games and thinking they have a right to get a result in any of them, it needs players who are going to give it their all.

I love how the younger players such as LD and DMB are the most confident , and are really getting prepared for this summer . Most of the article just talked about Beaz playing for PSV though... anyways , great article .

The Ribble! (pronounced Rib - lay) I saw Ronaldinho do that once!
Freaking amazing.
Americans arent skillful enough to do something like that though.

having team leaders who believe that we actually have a shot is a big part of the team's performance. good to see a little attitude.
