I know there has been some bad blood between Quake fans and new Houston MLS fans and it seems like the flames have died down. I am sure the Quake fans still feel punched in the gut and are still down in the dumps and they have every right to be.

I think it would be great if the supporters group picked a weekend in Houston as "Appreciation to Quake fans." The weekend would be for the supporters group to help out with lodging or just getting together one weekend at a bar or other place to bring some unity together. The Quake fans are very soccer savy compared to Houston fans right now knowing this team and we could probably have some great discussions and great team spirit.

Let me know if somehow we could pull this off. I will send Oliver a message about this to maybe having a appreciate the Quake fan night.

What does everyone think?

Interesting thought and I for one appreciate it.

Probably best to keep it on a supporter's group level -- don't get Luck (ie, AEG) involved. Quakes fans will probably react positively if it's a grassroots affair, but will be very pissy if it has anything to do with the Anti-Earthquakes Group.

I agree with the grassroots affair but what if Luck was able to get some cheap charter airfare and cheap rooms, throw some money into the party? I want your thoughts.

We need you guys. Especially your knowledge of the team and maybe even some suport on the road in LA with the Galaxy and Chivas. I think the players would love it to because SJ is there true roots. They will get use to Houston but it will take some time especially the California guys.

This sounds like a great idea. I bet they would love to come down and root against the Galaxy. I know it might not be feasible for many, and most may not even want to come down, but it is a cool idea in my opinion. I'd try to keep the team out of it as much as possible.

First, anyone who responds will only be speaking for himself (or herself). You will find that there are lots of opinions, often in direct conflict.

Second, my personal opinion is that anything that AEG does will pollute the water. I would keep this strictly a supporters-to-supporters event. Just my opinion.

Third, a great resource for you will be Michelle Selincourt, president of ClubQuake. The url is www.clubquake.org. ClubQuake is a great organization that knows how to get things done, has lots of experience and lots of pull with Quakes fans. I would contact them. They could help make a "supporters summit" or any other event successful, and would be a great resouce for you guys as you get things started.

Not on your fishin' life! Would you invite your ex to sleep in the same bed with your new spouse? Well...I bet some of you would....

But not on your fishin' life! Disgusting!

Appreciation to Quakes fans.... For WHAT?! For having you a team so you could take it?! "Hey, thanks for the team!" Dumbest idea ever!

I think it would be fun to do this! However, I don't feel that many of the Quakes fans would take us up on this.

But I would like to meet those Quake fans I haven't met before!

I take that as a strong "No." Thanks for taking the survey.

I personally have no plans to visit Houston any time soon, unless it's to change planes, or if I get sent there for work, or possibly in the future, to see the San Jose Earthquakes play in MLS Cup or see a USMNT game in your new stadium.

But there are some SJ fans who are more forgiving. Some of them are discussing a road trip to LA to see Houston play the Galaxy this year. A small number were considering a trip to Charleston for the preseason tournament, I forget what it's called, but it sounded like fun. You may be able to get some of them to participate.

I recommend you don't post this idea on the SJ forum yet as it will get more reactions like sj_quakes_fan's. ;)

I second the recommendation to contact Michelle Selincourt. Email info@clubquake.org. She has a BigSoccer username of "shoegirl" but she rarely posts here -- email is a better way to reach her.

Uh.... How do you think I got here? He posted a link in the Quakes forum.

Personally, I don't care what they do with their team. It's not our team anymore. So have fun! Go create your memories. May you always have a team from now until eternity! But realize what stories we have to share are about OUR team. Not yours. The San Jose Earthquakes won two Cups. The San Jose Earthquakes fans have memories of San Jose Earthquake players. But this is not the Earthquakes anymore.

I'd be up for it. I'm going to be in Charleston for the Cup, am hoping to visit HDC and/or Salt Lake for a game or two this year, and would love to come to Houston to see the ex-Quakes beat the Gals if it can be arranged.

I don't like what AEG did, but I still want to support the lads.

I totally agree. I don't consider myself an Earthquakes fan but the way they treated those fans leaves a bad taste in my mouth. To say they wanted Houston because it has a large Latino population seems strange. Like there aren't any latinos in San Jose. And considering the support the diehard San Jose fans gave and the teams success i just can't swallow that. It's disrespectful. I applaud those san jose fans that are understanding. Honestly. Good for them. I'm not though. As a bay area person i feel like someone pushed my little brother down. I feel like i need to beat the shit out of the people at MLS. The whole name thing strikes me as quite intolerant to other cultures as well and rubs me the wrong way. And i'm not latin. that's my two cents. But the whole we don't care if the Mexican's are offended seems pretty mean spirited. All that being said I don't wish their fans any ill will or anything and i hope they are successful. But i won't support them. And even better would be if the bay area. San Francisco specifically, where I am, got a team and then we could have a nice rivalry with Houston. That will probably never happen though because unless you have the brains to privately finance a stadium deal like Pac Bell Park you probably can't get a stadium built in San Francisco. Look at the 49ers. Those idiots won a ton of titles and still never could get a new stadium.

But good luck to Houston. I'll still watch the team. I just gotta find a local team. And maybe sock Garber in the jaw if I see him.

Hey Michelle, it's awesome that you'll be in Houston for the game! Is there a group of yall going (like at MLS Cup?) It would be great to see yall again.

We'll of course welcome all of yall to the tailgate and our festivities.

A wonderful parting gesture for the visting 'Quakes fans would be a T-Shirt that said "We stol' y'alls team, but thanks anyway".

(This is coming from a 'Quakes fan, that belives that the Houston fans are just the lucky ones who got an established, class act team dropped on their laps and the ones who deserve to be clocked by GalacticoX4 work for AEG, MLS and in the San Jose city hall)

Don't listen to SJQF. That's what you get when your unattractive and have no life besides stalking the members of a certain soccer team.

Great idea Houston fans. I'll be up for this idea. IMO, they are still our boys as much as they are your boys.

Thanks for the feeback. Like I said in another thread, I know some are going to feel differently. I totally understand how some of you guys feel. I supported the Houston Oilers since I was a kid in the 70's and went through every heartbreak when they moved in '96 to Tennessee. I was so mad. I did not watch the NFL for 3 years and I said, "good riddance." I could have cared less about the Titans and the NFL. The only thing I payed attention to is the scoreline to see if Tennessee got beat. I was so mad at Bud Adams (the owner) for moving the team because the city rejected a new stadium.

The only time I got back into the NFL was when Houston got another team in 2002.

If my attitude of the Oilers moving is a reflection of some of the fans attitudes of the Quakes moving, most of you won't watch the new MLS franchise as well as any MLS games for a while.

I hope you guys get a team soon. If you do I know the rivalry between SJ and Houston will be fierce the first few years. From the fans perspective, it was fierce between the Texans and the Titans the first couple of years.

In the mean time, hopefully the supporter's group down here can put something together. I think it would be fun.
