Taken from the MLS N&A board and applying this to the Revs specifically. Here's what's being talked about:
Garber: Switch to Euro calendar possible by 2010
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
"The time will come when we will be able to align our schedule with the world," Garber said. "That is our ultimate objective. I think we've proved with the Interliga, Mexican national team games and U.S. national team games that people will come out in the winter. We're getting there, but we're not there yet."
Garber said a switch in the M.L.S. calendar could happen by 2010, when M.L.S. hopes to have 16 teams, with most if not all of them playing in their own stadiums.
And here's the article (http://www.nytimes.com/2006/02/15/sports/soccer/15cnd-soccer.html).
Thoughts, other than we wouldn't play a home game till May?

"I think we've proved with the Interliga, Mexican national team games and U.S. national team games that people will come out in the winter. We're getting there, but we're not there yet."And to think it may have been almost down to the 40s during one of those california winter games.
Really is there that much difference between that and 10 degrees with snow?

I hate it. I think it's a profoundly bad idea, and not just because nobody wants to play outside in Foxboro, Denver, Toronto, etc. in February. It would be a tremendously stupid move simply because of too many conflicting sports.
August-May: NFL, NBA, NHL, and all college sports
April-November: Mostly just baseball until the tail end of the season
A South American split schedule--say, March-November with June or July off for World Cup or Gold Cup detail--could work. But full-on European style? Hell no.

No split schedule. I dont really no why, but I would absolutly hate that. I would favor a schedule starting maybe in February for two reasons.
1. I would like to see and be at some games in very cold weather and even some snow.
2. We would almost completely be able to avoid the NFL schedule which causes scheduling conflicts.

I like the summer schedule.
I have no problem with splitting the schedule into two, but we only have to make it a prolonged split during WC years.
We could run the MLS All-Star game (who cares anyway), US Open Cup and Gold Cup during this period. Every 4th year make it long enough for the World Cup.
Besides, why would MLS want to give up a month or two in the middle of the summer. Isn't this when gate reciepts are the best?

Been there, done that (10/29/05), came away cold, wet, and convinced the people who want a Euro schedule can go pound sand.

AMEN. Anyone who wants to play or watch soccer in an uncovered stadium in NEW England in the depth of winter is just NUTS. Our current schedule has problems but is functional and IMO works just fine.

I think all that's been proven is that people will come out for Interliga, Mex Nats, and US Nat games. That's it and that's all.

I'm in favor of a Clausura/Apertura whatever its called type deal. But play soccer in Foxboro in December/January/February? HELL no. and you can't play on an indoor turf stadium either... I don't see what the problem is with starting the season in april, playing in may and june, taking july off, and finishing up in august, september and october. during the world cup, you just stick the cup games then anways.

I agree with switching the schedule. MLS teams need to be recognized better outside MLS, thus winning some international competitions. It makes perfect sense.
Plus we can actually put the scarves to good use.

So let me get this straight:
MLS is considering moving to a Euro calendar, with games to be played in the cold of winter.
Now, if I'm reading this correctly, this would be the same type of winter that Stevie doesn't want his lads playing in at home in the CCC...

I dont agree, first I dont give ******** on what Euro,SA and others think. Secondly, If you think crowds are bad now in Foxboro, how many people would we get a game tomorrow with the hig being around 25 and the wind chill being in single digits. I say keep it the way the schedule it is, I prefer going to games in the 80 degree range, not 10-20 degrees.

Hmmm, let's see.
In the world calendar, you have the major European leagues where the temperatures are rarely below freezing, and a handful of minor leagues (Sweden, Norway, Russia, Switzerland) where the winters are hell, they have awkward breaks, the attendance is nothing special, and the teams aren't that good.
Maybe Garber thinks global warming will carry this one through. In the old days, Chicago might go 3 weeks in January without the temperature ever hitting as high as 32 degrees, and with many days at 10 degrees or lower. They might play in EPL in January, but they don't play in weather like that.

We could have a split season: Spring - April 1st to July 4th, and Fall - Labor Day to Thanksgiving or December 1st. Once we have our own stadia, this should be no problem -- including one for the Revs, with sub-soil heating, maybe even radiant heat in the stands.
Hold clubhouse events during the winter, and special events in July-August. Like Bikini Babe Soccer and Women's Beach Volley Ball On Grass. Stuff like that.
I dream. That's what dreamers do.

I honestly don't understand where the motivation for this comes from. So let me ask a few dumb questions:
As a fan, how does a move to a world-aligned schedule benefit me? How does it benefit my club (on the field)?
If I am an owner-operator of an MLS side, how does a move to a world-aligned schedule benefit my club?
If I am an MLS player, how does a move to a world-aligned schedule benefit my career?
If I am an MLS player in the USMNT player pool, how does a move to a world-aligned schedule benefit my chances of advancing in that pool?
