Okay, I was thinking about a couple of quotes. The first, from Arena as mentioned in another thread, where he is talking about Noonan:
"He’s a real winner and a great competitor, as are all the Revolution players. Whatever Stevie is doing with them, they’re really competitive guys and the kind of players you need to have on the field in international games."
Then from the Grant Wahl article we have:
"Biggest disappointment: Santino Quaranta, who came into camp in woeful condition and promptly put himself in manager Bruce Arena's doghouse."
So, in remembering some of the draft choice discussions, I got to thinking. (Danger! Danger!)
Did Quaranta show up out of condition because he doesn't play for Nicol? Or does he not play for Nicol because he's the sort of player to show up out of condition?
Are Nicol and Mariner picking older players because they are more mature and it's a bit easier to tell if they have the work ethic to accept the coaching and thus can improve? And the coaching aspect is just some guidance? Or can they take anyone and work on how to be competitive and thus develop the skills necessary in them?
Would they be good coaches for younger players? Development types? Or is what they do more the finishing touches?
