Crazy Absurd Prediction: This thread will go downhill fast.

To be clear, he said Landon was "one of the best attacking midfielders in the world."

Still a stretch to be sure -- I think we might, just might, be willing to give him up for Kaka or Ronaldinho. Somehow I doubt that will be one of the less derogatory comments made about Landon during the course of this thread . . .

I absolutely think Landon is one of the best AMs in the world. It's pretty hard to define any one player as THE best, that'll always be subject to opinion, but Landon is definitely up there, in my opinion.

Frank Yallop is a genius.

22 assists and 25 goals in 73 caps not to mention an assist and two goals
in the last WC make LD an extremely good player.

World class? Who cares really; for an attacker the numbers are what
matters.

It's worth it just to hear the Euros scream. ;)

I dunno, Landon sure as hell ain't Ronaldinho, but aside from Frank Lampard I don't really see any English AMs who strike me as being clearly better. But maybe it's just me.

I would say he is the next to Totti.

Well it's definitely you that brought England into the conversation.
Fixation.

"one of the best, if not the best" is what I heard. So aside from Kaka, The Magician and Lampard, who else is ahead of Donovan?

That's fixated? I would hav e hoped you might have taken it as a compliment that I want to know what you guys are talking about.
Alas, seemingly not.

Still, let us both not divert yet another thread onto the topic of England.

Kaka
Totti
Del Piero
Zidane
Joe Cole
Rosicky
Van Der Vaart (he was playing VERY well the few times I saw him before getting injured)

that's just off hand and mind you I don't watch mush Spanish, Italian, or South American soccer.

I thought Freddy was the best a-mid. How could I be wrong?

His teammate Joe Cole. (Actually, Landon and Joe are very similar players.)

Gerrard.

Joey Barton, maybe. (Let's see if he can keep it up.)

England has some sick talent in the central midfield. It just doesn't mesh well with itself.

22 asssits and 25 goals in 73 caps, most of those against very weak opposition. That doesn't make you world class. Landon played well in the last world cup, but its arguable that he wasn't even a top 5 player on his team

No, numbers aren't what really matter for attackers in soccer. That's not even the case for basketball.

That is a ridiculous satement by Frank Yallop. Donovan probably isn't even in the top 25 attacking mids.

Joe Cole

Could be. Joe has looked great for a year now. But it's hard to say with Joe ... he's not asked to lead Chelsea, and he doesn't figure much for England, either. He's kinda the Freddy Adu of England, does some cool stuff sometimes and shows up on highlight reels but until he plays more regularly it's hard to figure out where to place him.

I love Gerrard but I don't quite think of him as "AM." But if that's what we want to call him, I'm happy to say that Steve is better than Landon, too.

NO WAY.... He could not get a start for a mid level German team.

He is great for our NATS, but he is not one of the best in the world.

There are probably 10 from Brazil better than him. Kaka, Ronaldinho, Robinho, Deco, the one who started in from of him in Germany, and 5 or more others.

What does one of the best mean? top 10 or top 100? I would put him in the top 100.
