"Khano Smith sat out the training session and admitted he is likely to play no part in the tour."
:(
I know the coaches have said he's rehabbing, but I thought Khano said he was healthy! Will the locals come out to support the Revs CCC game now without Khano on the field?

What some of us have been worried about for a while. As far as many of us here are concerned, this is at best a neutral site game at this point. Let's just hope they can put a couple on the board before the head to Costa Rica.
But hey, Mariner did guarantee a series win!

One wonders if Nicol and Mariner can mine one or more DV players from the Bermuda player pool. Hell, maybe Khano has a speedy, left footed little brother who plays left back and would like to room with him in Boston for a few years.

This is for all the girls out there ... except that it's in a guys mag.
Anyway, 7 MLS Stars will be in the March Maxim (http://www.mlsnet.com/MLS/news/mls_news.jsp?ymd=20060214&content_id=52214&vkey=news_mls&fext=.jsp), including a couple of our own (and no, I'm not talking about Magpie).

Great Report. I have almost the exact same list as my projected list to go to Germany---except I have Ralston going as well as TnT and Dempsey.

many of you may have already read this article, but i thought i'd point out this quote from The Bruce:
"Whatever Stevie [Nicol] is doing with them, they're really competitive guys, the kind of players you need to have on the field in international games. Pat, I think, had his best game ever for the national team against Japan. .."

with the talks/rumors of Arena possibly leaving the Nats position, would Nicol not deserve to be on the shortlist of candidates to take over? no idea if he'd even be interested, but he's done a hell of a job with the Revs...selfishly, i'd of course welcome the scenario as a Metro & Nats fan, but in all seriousness, what do you guys think?

I thought there was talk of keeping Arena with the Nats through 2010?

But didn't he also hint that if he ever had a shot to coach a top level side in europe, pref EPL, he'd take it

Seriously, where does a coach go after a successful stint with his nation's team? In other countries he might wind up with a "big" club somewhere, or in the case of some coaches, they end up being a journeyman, coaching several countries. Somehow I can't see Arena being happy coaching the kind of "second-tier" country that would likely jump at the chance to land a manager like Arena. Even Sampson was at least reasonably well respected in Latin America, and it didn't hurt that he speaks fluent Spanish. I don't know if Arena speaks any other languages.
Club football is a lot different. Even if he were with a mid-level Prem club, a lot of the skill that makes a manager successful is getting the most out of limited resources, and finding and developing young players. Not to say Arena couldn't do this, but it doesn't seem that he would "automatically" be successful. And if he doesn't do well in his first England job, it could be tough for him to get another chance there. He gets impatient with the media in the US, I can't imagine how much he'd like the "ee-jit factor" of the lowest common denominator media in a place like England!

Earlier this week the former English professional striker released a list of 25 players, a list that excludes the likes of Ralph Bean Jr, Carlos Smith, Kentoine Jennings, Shannon Burgess, Meshach Wade and Ottis Steede – all veterans of the 2006 World Cup qualifying campaign.
from the bermuda gazette article.
i actually think that is really bad news. the bermuda game should have been our stiffest challenge and its looking like they're gonna have a C- team playing for them. i wish we had a better test before playing alajualense, especially since they're in mid season form. ugh... hopefully it won't matter in the end.

I've been thinking this for a while - I think he'd been an excellent candidate. The USSF would be crazy not to consider him.

sorry to post the topic and not respond, but week at work was a little crazy..
anyway, as long as Arena is getting it done and he wants to stay, then i'm in no rush to see his tenure end...i can see why people would think he'd be crazy to leave, but i would also understand if he wanted to coach in the EPL...as fans, wouldn't it be hypocritical to criticize Landon for coming home, but holding it against The Bruce to challenge himself as a coach in the EPL??...i know that hasn't been said, but it's another point i wanted to raise...nonetheless, the situation is a hypothetical one..
though it'd be nice to have an American as our coach, i personally don't think it's important, so much as it is ideal...more important IMO, is someone who has at least some understanding and appreciation of MLS...successful playing and/or coaching in MLS would be good too, simply because i find that even the foreigners that have come over and been successful, seem to take pride in the growth of soccer in the US...so with this criteria, i'm certainly eliminating the majority of foreign coaches..
ToMh, i stopped posting frequently on BS some time ago so i never got around to changing my handle, but i'm still a fan of BB's...over at MetroFanatic, i replaced "In Bob We Trust" with a new handle the day Lalas was hired, as it was obvious Bob's days were numbered...though I want BB to be successful at Chivas, i'll always be Metro & i'd never root for Bob to beat us...haha, i forgot about my handle, i'll probably even change it now - it doesn't quite work for me anymore ;)
ps. i'm sure you guys could care less, but i'm absolutely thrilled for the Mo era, and i'm confident he can become a good coach, like Nicol has become..
