The hubby said he forgot V-day, so not to expect anything. But last year, when he said he "forgot," that liar sent me chocolates :p So, we'll see what happens today.

alright Saph, from a guy who isn't really into buying his gf chocolates or flowers or anything of that kind, what an alternative and effective way in which I can make it at least a bit special for her? even though we agreed not to celebrate it and all, she's still a female, and you know you gals are hung up on it no matter what, Take under consideration that we won't be able to see each other.

Draw something special for her. If you're usually not romantic, sit her down and tell her you love her or she's beautiful or whatever (or call, or write, SirManc, since you can't see her -- "Hey, just cause its valentines day, I wanted to tell you blah blah blah"). Or, this is so corny (but I LOVE stuff like this), take every letter in her name and come up with a line about how special she is. Corny stuff goes along way, I think, even for tougher girls, to show that you have a soft side and you don't care if you look goofy or whatever, and you spent time thinking of nice things about her.
I called my husband tonight (it was past midnight, so technically v-day in Italy), and he sang me a song. Not an original or anything, just a nice love song, but I'm good to go, even if he doesn't do anything else. You could do something like that.
I think the thing is to do something a little romantic, and genuine.

and you really think she'd fall for it? i mean, did your hubby's love song work for you?

and you really think she'd fall for it? i mean, did your hubby's love song work for you?Yes, but that's my style. I love romance and silliness. My hubby can't carry a tune to save his life, but he sang me a little song, and the effort and sweetness of it meant something to me. He sings to me sometimes with silliness or honesty depending on the effect he wants, I suppose -- so I don't know which would suit your style and relationship more. But I think either might work, and certainly it shows you are giving alot of thought to her.
Since I don't know you or your gf's style, it's really hard to say if it'll work or not. I would say, though, if you're "not celebrating" but you wanna "do something" -- just do a little something to show her that you love her, a little goes a long way. It's hard to give advice since I don't know if you want to be romantic or silly or cavalier or whatever.

If I would be able to meet up with her, I'd whip out the guitar and play her a tune..I don't know what I'll do yet, I suppose I'll call her, if only I wasn't so busy I could actually draw her something too. If only I didn't make her a mixed cd prior to this
Thanks for your advice though, always there with something to say, you Saph are da man!

you Saph are da man!You worry me a bit. Just a little bit ;)
Good luck, Romeo :p
Also, a note to all who have a partner to play with: Chocolate is an aphrodisiac, and it melts quickly upon contact with the body. I won't elaborate. Have fun, you love birds!

Sapphire,
As a favor to the rest of us men. Any chance you can put together a brief pamphlet, hand-out, flyer, small novel, etc. about that it's ok for girls to love and follow soccer. There is a major problem in this country with women not appreciating the beautiful game as much as they should.
I'm doing what I can with trying to bring my g/f around, but for some reason I don't think it will work. I'm willing to accept that since she doesn't mind my early Sat mornings at the pub. Part of me thinks that most of it's due to the fact that she knows that there are so few women there. Not that it would matter to me, she's my Russian tulip.
So seriously, please write something, I know that I'll help with the distribution of it. Maybe we can even get Oprah involved!:D

Oprah will only help if it's a loosely factual guide rather than specific and informative. That's just the way she rolls, yo.

That depends on what lady I decide to select tonight and how drunk she is. ;)
