Good night John-Boy!
Is that a normal 'Goodnight, John Boy' or a Family Guy 'Goodnight, John Boy'?

The importance of sleep is vastly overrated. With that, I am off to bed, folks.

Is that a normal 'Goodnight, John Boy' or a Family Guy 'Goodnight, John Boy'?It's a WALTON's 'Goodnight, John Boy' ;)

But I don't watch Family Guy, so I'm sure I'm missing something.

Basically, they all go through the motions until that final Goodnight, John Boy. There is no reply, so them other walks into John Boy's room, flicks on the light, and is met with John Boy shouting "damnit, can't a guy masturbate in this house!"

I originally thought that was what you intended when you made that post, given some of the other posts leading up to it. I overestimatred you, Saph. You let me down, you let the team down... but most of all, you let yourself down. :p

An anecdote on authorial intent:

Tom Stoppard, the British playright, is going through customs. He declares 200 cigarettes and nothing else. The customs officials search his bag (you remember this from your sausage smuggling days, billy?), and find 200 cigarettes and a bottle of vodka. "Why didn't you declare your bottle of vodka, Mr. Stoppard?" says the customs official. Stoppard says "I see that the bottle is there, I acknowledge that I must have put it there since I am the only one that packed the suitcase, but I didn't intentionally put it in."

Maybe the Family Guy joke I created can work, even if I didn't know about it? After all it is there . . .

Get some tea or pills with Melatonin.

It's not a "drug", it's more of a supplement that replicates the natural Melatonin your brain produces during REM sleep. It helps you relax and get a good deep sleep, and I always awake super-refreshed in the morning.

The only real side effect is that your dreams are in technicolour. :D

Each slow-wave sleep/REM cycle last around 90 minutes, and the first one doesn't begin until approximately 40 minutes after entering sleep (there are typically 3 or 4 cycles of SWS/REM in a night's sleep, with periods of lighter sleep in between - think of it as a series of plateaux and troughs). You definately need a sustained period of uninterrupted rest, napping doesn't work for long.

And using drugs (even prescribed drugs) for any sustained period of time is definately a bad idea.

I'm not an insomniac in the least. I can sleep pretty much whenever I put my mind to it, except on airplanes. I get good sleep, almost never nap, but if I do, I still get good sleep and I'm bright eyed and bushy tailed in the morning, every morning.

I will say this though, and its obvioulsy not the solution to all sleeping problems, but after giving blood I usually can sleep for up to 12 hours and this for me is a record because I usually sleep 5-6 hours at the most and prior to giving blood had never slept past 8:00 in the morning on any day of the week regardless of what time I went to bed. Hell, I routuinely went to bed at 5 to wake at 6, play basketball and then work 9-5 and then go to the movies when I got off work and still, woke up at 7 the next morning.
