the 98 mexican team rocked no doubt their uniforms also kicked ass, but this year IMO is the weakest ive seen them... They got the forwards and decent defense and a good goalie, but the midfield is ehh... not the greatest part.

Mexico has NEVER had a defence as good as they have now !
Mexico has NEVER had the physical conditioning that they showed in the Confed Cup.

IMO Mexico has the best goalkeeper in the group, The best defence, and overall the best ball control .

The tactics are the same when in Offence (ball control), but when defending Mexico has been very good in meaningfull games and its a pleasure to watch when it all works. When it doesnt work ? well thats when the worst of the fans come out of their hiding.

I agree with you saying you have the best goalkeeps. On your ball control, I am assuming you mean retainning the ball or keeping possesion. If that is the case then I would also give you that edge over Portugal. Now if you are talking about ball control as in style and dribbling capabilities, Portugals blows out the candles my friend.

Regarding defense, Portugal has a better defense then Mexico.

I saw their qualifying games... They definantly did not look up to par...

Their defense has been great ya i agree, but their Midfield well ummm ya it needs massive imporvement... The forwards are good though.

Mexico reminds me of Colombia in 1994.

This Mexico is the weakest we've had in quite a while.

Not even close , before the '94 cup Colombia beat everyone in their path ,had some "Superstar" players , had a showman goalkeeper that lost the game vs. Romania , had the attitude problem that lost vs. USA .

Ball posession is the main part of Mexico's game ,I do think that Portugal's middle has an advantage , I guess it will all depend on how the game develops . I beleive by the time Mexico and Portugal meet they will both have 6 points each .

Hopefully...If that would occur I would still like Portugal to go for the win.

Man for man I would also pick Portugal but it seems to me that mentally Mexico usually plays beyond itself when the going gets tough, and Portugal is just the opposite, not playing as well as it's expected to when it matters most.

Mexico

goalkeeping= excelent
defense= very good
midfield= irregular
attack(with borgetti)= good
attack(without borgetti)= average

actually portugal often plays crap wen they take on junk teams. thats why theyve fallen at the final easy hurdle for world cup qualification often and got screwed in wc02 and euro2004

I think the current Mexico squad is one of their better ones. Not that my opinion is definitive or anything. I think the coaching this year is better than in the past and I think that the players and coaches are somehow more serious. They are really hungry this year. They don't underestimate any team, they prepare and adjust better for their opponents than in years past. So I expect that Mexico will do well this year.

I expect them to win the group, but then they'd likely have to play the Dutch! God I hate the Dutch! (Not the people or nation mind you, I just can't stand the way they play.) Do you recall the '98 Mexico versus Holland match? The Dutchmen's best play was the hip check. Freaking cheaters! I find their "style" to be negative and cynical. They love to push, shove, and grab jerseys. Puke!

Well Mexico is just going to have to learn to deal with that. They play against Guatemala and Honduras often enough, so they should be use to that crap by now. There's two more nasty teams.

So for me, I think the difference in this year's Mexico squad is preparation and an improved defense.

GO USA!!
Viva Mexico!

We're seeded!

We got cheated out of one last cup because Fifa decided to host the tourney in two countries.

Our midfield isn't as strong as in the past either. Our defense makes up for it, but I'm used to seeing us have the midfield be our forte.
