earn more than 3 points would definately not be a good wc for CIV.
i know they have a strong group, but they should aim for the quarters (considering that their next opposition comes from group d)

earning 3 points will definitly be a good WC for CIV as they will be playing in the same group with 2 footballing gaints. if they make it to Quater than it will be dream WC for them not just good.

i agree it is same for the US to get through the group stage as it is for CIV but CIV has less chances. CIV has strong squad but Netherlands and and Argentina both have better squad.

CIV has better chances, because they have a better squad than Ghana/USA. additionally Italy has a better squad than Holland/Argentina. furthermore Holland and Argentina have a long tradition of not living up to their full potencial.

hm just take a look at the historic results and then take a look at recent results.
italy>argentina is common sense, if you don't agree with this one you are the one who has the burden of proof

when u said italy has a better squad, it has to be better players in that squad than that of Argentina these days. Anyways, history shows that Italy has done better than Argentina but this doesnot make any sense when it comes to having good squad right now.

this doesn't still shows that Italy has better squad than Argentina. You might say Argentina lost to Croatia but still it won't prove that Argentina have bad squad. when you say good squad then in every position of the field or in average , team needs to have better player than the other teams.

and how do you judge the players? yes, by their performances. it is not that important how a player performs for his club, because a good club player don't has to be a good national player and vice versa. (just look at the czechs).
so the recent results of italy against top teams compared to the results of argentina show that they are better than them (not only the results, but their whole performance)

Every team's goal is to advance so I don't think anyone is just satisfied with getting X amount of points.
I also don't know if it is easy or right to try to predict what would be successful/not successful. The only success is winning the cup.
Argentina
My Prediction: Crash out in group stage... again.
Good: Win it all
Bad: Not winning it all
Netherlands
My Prediction: Win Group
Good: Win it all
Bad:Not winning it all
Serbia and Montenegro
My Prediction: Advance.
Good: Win it all
Bad: Not winning it all
Ivory Coast
My Prediction: Fail to advance.

so if you want to judge the performance of the team then Italy shgould play against England and Croatia and Argentina should play against Netherlands and Germany, then only the better squad will be known according to your theory.
Anyways when you said better squad, Argentina is crumbling right now but they have still the 2nd best squad in the world, if not the best.

Why is everyone so down on Serbia, did no one see them keep Spain to a draw in Madrid no less, they have a team with a very good shot of advancing from the group stage, Holland is not the team they once were and neither is Argentina and at the least one of these two teams will fall to Serbia, we have a team that goes out there and plays with heart everytime no matter who it is so don't count us out so quick.

Van Basten said the only performance he'll be pleased with is a world cup win. He'll be disappointed with anything else. As for me personally, I just want them too play to their potential and not to lose silly penalty shoot-outs. If their best is not good enough then so be it.
That said, once we get past the group stage it's a fairly do-able path to the final - either England or Germany in the quarters doesn't scare us fans much at all. There's only one real favourite and that's Brazil, we're on a par with most other sides.
