I get your basic point. I'm sure there was one somewhere there. He is clearly worn out. Paucity of ideas and a lack of energy are obvious compared to the autumn. I hope he gets a second wind in the next few weeks. We NEED him at his best.

Perhaps he just needs warm weather and a dry track? "Horses for courses"?

He's from Basque country which is the wettest and coldest corner of Spain --- Valencia it ain't.

Yes, but the recent state of the pitches in England has been stifling his abilities to control flow and distribute from a deep position.

Also, we've been playing away from home a lot recently. It's not always as easy as the visitor to control the midfield and subsequently tempo of the game.

At Chelski they had let the pitch go to crap to slow us and Barca. It was clear Wigan had no attacking options so the pitch had been soaked -- gamemanship. Tuesday is in front of the Kop as is Saturday.

Plus, in the Wigan game he was playing a more advanced and aggressive role due to the introduction of Hamann. That hasn't been his best position. I think there are many reasons to be upset lately. The most pressing one clearly isn't the play of Xabi Alonso.

As ever, a precise summary, with which I agree:)

Another point to make is that we are judging him by the genuinely impeccable standards he has set since joining. In reality, even in falling short of those, he's still playing better than some players in similar positions are capable of when on top form.

He's allowed the odd dip, he'll be back.

Don't worry about Xabi guys, he is a world class player. He has proven to us how valuable he can be. Het set real high standards for himself since arriving at Anfield, so this little dry patch is looking worse than it actually is.

Every player goes through a phase such as this, he'll be back to his old self in no time, he is class.

One has to allow for the occasional dip in form from time to time and Alonso's situation is no exception. I wouldn't start worrying about it unless he really begins playing badly on a more consistent basis, i.e. for more than just a couple of games. Xabi is class and I wouldn't trade him for anyone... not even for all the capital letters in the previous post.

The arsenal game shows that he is coming back to his form, although that dip was slightly worrying, and in the wigan game he dint seem comfortable with stevie,he was trying his best but couldnt work on a terrible pitch.

Um...because he's been one of our more outstanding players for a season and a half and he's allowed to be less than human every once in awhile. You should support him when he's less than perfect...God knows we put up with you.

I've played more games than you have watched in your life. Even if they weren't in England, I for sure understand the natural biological rythyms of play and am smart enough to analyze them correctly.

...and yes, I'm his second cousin by marriage. ;)

Well, while we check Xabi's I.D. can you get a dictionary and an editorial style guide and prevail on us to use a grammar check.

If you want to make a point on here, fine. That's what this board is for. But it would be far better received if you typed in actual sentences and not cap the beginning of every friggin' word.

It's annoying and it taints my opinion of your posts.

That said, he has had a poor run lately (I believe he's carrying an injury to be honest) and the Arsenal match showed that he is "playing through it" and his top form is not too far away.

If he scores a belter on Sunday will you shut up? ;)

Ditto, when your Mercedes needs a tune-up, it's still a Mercedes. Xabi is pure class, I don't complain that he's having a bit of a spell, Crouchy has gone dry and no one seems to be noticing, also Moro hasn't remotely lived up to his hype yet I don't see the "Where's Moro?" threads. Xabi has definetley spoiled us to where when he's average, we think something is wrong. Just remember who hustled after his saved penalty and put away the rebound on that fateful night. May 25th. 2005!! My fondest memory of Alonso!! Although his monster of a goal vs Luton this year was an absolute beauty as well!

Not to hijack or anything, but look who is right behind Xabi after his penalty was saved......Luis Garcia....this guy follows up on rebounds like no one else on our team, a true asset.

carry on :)

Hmmm ... perhaps not the best analogy, given their approach to build quality these days, but sure - I'm with you. ;)
