Good summary here:

OK, so I'm a homer, but there were times in the first half that that looked like Revs v. Japan. TnT best make sure his passport is up to date. Aggressive. Sweet knockdown for Pope. The give and go through Twellman that Dempsey started and finished was like a "Best of" from the one-touch Revs of last Spring. Great separation for TnT's goal in the second half. MotM with ease. Dempsey continued to be dangerous on the inside right. Whie I wish he'd stay on his feet more, he was making defenders foul in dangerous spots and drawing yellow cards. Aggressive in the box like the Clint we know well. Noonan was making his defender look like he played for the Mutts. He probably won't make the final 23, but he showed why we'll be glad to have him at the Razor anyday.

On the downside, Rolfe did his best Blooter imitation on the second Japan goal by moving OFF the post to let the ball through. Very unpleasant flashback, Chris. Please don't do that again.

I think Chris Klein punched his ticket for Salt Lake City.
Landon needs to work on his corners and free kicks.
Rolfe looked like the proverbial "deer in the headlights."
Japan sure looked weaker than I expected.

Yeah some of those corners were pretty sad

Japan looked strong in the first 2 minutes. i got nervous.

good game for our boys though. the goal by Dempsey via TnT was fantastic. Twellmans monster goal and assists were reall great to see.

Noonans nice hop-over hustle on the left hand side was really cool. He had some nice moves, could have done more. decent game for Noonan. i wish he could have snuck in a few assists or a goal.

next! Guatemala.

The Revs boys indeed do well. Twellman and Dempsey not much can be sad, and about Noonan, I think Chello said it best ... "He just brings something... I'm not sure what, but he brings something."

This isn't final yet, but I think Demps and Twellman have a pretty good shot right now.

Rolfe ... stay on the f'in post!

Johnny, I agree with Chello, I don't think Klein did anything that earned himself a spot yesterday. It was a new position for him, and he played OK. It was his man that scored the first goal. I think he's still a bubble boy.

And please please Bruce ... leave Ben Olsen in the US...

next! Guatemala.

Not for any of our guys though--Revs and Gals were cut loose for CCC duty this morning. Look for Guatemala to be the Eddie Johnson show.

Reis would have had one of those two goals.

If Taylor gets called up for one of the two Euro friendlies and holds his own, he's in. Dempsey is looking for books to read on the plane to Germany.

Speaking of Demps, I think Zico got everyone together in the locker room, showed them that video, and said "see this guy? Foul the living snot out of him." It was like Cobi vs. Mexicans in terms of the team just deciding to hammer him all night.

Noonan looked really good last night, but I still think he's staying home this summer.

Why were both teams wearing away kits?

As much as I hate the Revs, TnT, and Clint; they sure are playing great for the Nats right now. I never thought I would be cheering for Taylor and yelling at my TV when Clint gets fouled.

Reis is another story... I'll always hate him. :D

I guess I have been getting spoiled with the quality of the MLSNET.COM site and the way the have the games streaming live and then saved right away so you can replay them if you miss...but where are the highlights if the US v Japan game! I found a press conference with LD and Bruce, but I wann replay that great TnT half volley that almost made it in in the 30th minute, plus all those other cool moments. Little help...? :)

Gockley, I am sure you will eventually get highlights on USSOCCER.com.

While a lot of the talk is on TnT and Dempsey, I think Pat made a nice case for himself last night. He could be such a utility player. He proved he can play a decent outside midfield role, he can also play forward and Bruce has now seen enough of him and given him enough chances that I wouldn't count him out. Noonan's biggest issue I think, is getting a chance - if he gets time, he proves himself. Not flashy, not smooth, not super fast, he's just one of those guys with what I call, sticky feet: for some reason they always seem to keep the ball in the traffic. Pat is definitely not as sure a shot as TnT or Clint, but he's a lot better shot than Adu or Quaranta and probably Klein.

In my ruminations this morning, I began to prepare myself for the day when we lose Tnt, Dempsey and Shalrie to Europe.....and maybe even Reis. I hope we win the cup this year, because I can't see all of them being with us next year.

I've been wondering the same thing for awhile. The current Rev team is a powerhouse but I don't see them staying together into 2007.

Yep, they are up there. Not TnT's volley, but all the goals. Too bad it is in a tiny two inch window that I can't figure out how to enlarge!

As far a Noonan - I agree. He must have gone by his man a dozen times with some seriously mazy footwork. That steal where he nutmegged the defender and then jumped over him looked like a running back. Can't wait to see them back with the Revs in the ConfedCup.

Ah, it is good to be with people who share the same thoughts, i.e. the very same thoughts! I commented during the match that Japanese game plan included hacking Dempsey (he rarely got a second touch before he was fouled). And this morning I told my son who slept through the match that he missed the Revs beating Japan last night.

I also agree that Noonan is proving himself nicely and though he is definitely still on the bubble, I would argue that he is a better choice than Wolf. Is it just my homerism, or is Wolf really that non-productive? It seems to me that I've never seen him really step up and deliver with the Nats. Noonan, OTOH, has proven that he brings something to the team in midfield AND forward is his natural position. Wouldn't he be a better choice for the bench?

I actually still like wolff. He's not perfect, but I like how he plays off the ball and he's fast in a way noonan will never be. I also think he's got a pretty high soccer IQ, he makes really smart, creative decisions quickly and the result is some deadly combination play. Think of his pass to twellman before dempsey's goal last night or the way he fed Beasley in Scotland to set up the PK.

If only he could score...

I agree that Josh moves well off the ball. His runs help open space even if he's not scoring. However, I don't recall him being involved in Dempsey's goal. IIRC, that went Clint --> LD --> TnT --> Clint --> GOOOOAAL!!.

Wolff can't handle the ball. Many, many poor traps, 1'st touches ... There was one play in the box where they said he tried a heal pass but Ia've watched it over & over and I think he just muffed the trap.

I get a kick out of his facials during ther game. He always looks like he thinks he's doing so well. Makes me wish I could ask him "Do you think you're having a good game?" I think he'd be surprised if he found out how most watchers would answer that question
