I do not know if it is still legal in Ecuador, but have any of you ever tried this?

I saw a great documentary yesterday on the Shamans of Ecuador's Amazon and the ayahuasca drink. I have never had ayahuasca, but have tried a varient that uses the mimosa hostilis tree bark, opposed to the psychotria viridis , called mimosahuasca. It was some of the most disgusted stuff I have ever ingested, made me more nauseus than I have ever been, had some of the scariest moments of my life, but ended up being pretty good...lol. I plan on doing it again.

The documentary really got me thinking on how the capitalists and the petroleros are really destroying (more than they have already done so) a rich culture/environment.

It is a drink of the indigenous people of Ecuador, Peru, Bolivia, North-west Argentina, and I think Brazil. It is a hallucinogenic drink. The active ingredient is called DMT, it is the strongest hallucinogen known to man (I think).

The indigenous people use it for health purposes, for protection (they believe they can find out the intentions of their enemies), and just for visions of the planet.

i remember now, when i went to the amazon, the tour guide explained about this drink to me. he said if one was to have too much, it is dangerous, the sideaffect being similar to being intoxicated, but one that would last a life time. sounds scary! ahah
but he said in small doses, is medicinal, and some kind of rush feeling. he asked if i wanted to try, but my friend and i were too scared to try it! haha

the tour guide was either mis-informed or just messing with you guys. i think everyone throws up from ingesting it. i think it is humanly impossible to have too much if it is in drink form, i could believe it if it were the smokable form.

it is very difficult to explain its effects, even compared to other hallucinogens.

maybe it was another drink... i just don't remember the name. maybe he did mention something about taking it in through smoking it, but the Italians on the tour were so loud. :o
