First of all, I don't hate Germany. I don't like German teams for a bunch of reasons, most of them sports-related. And the wars just add up to that. After all, Germans voted for Hitler to bring him into power. There are also other political issues, which I personally hold against German government (such as handling of terrorist situation with Israeli hostages during Munich Olympics).
Second of all, the reasons I listed for disliking them are just that - reasons. If England lost to France in semifinals of the world cup and then again in Euro Cup, and then lost to a bunch of French teams trying to win a CL title, I would've disliked France more than I dislike Germany.

That's the nature of a fan, isn't it? There are teams you like, teams that you don't care about, and teams that you don't like, enjoy every time they lose and is extremely happy when your team beats a crap out of them. Germany is just one of those teams for me.

The people of Germany elected Hitler because they were all brilliantly manipulated to do so, Joseph Goebbles was a brilliant propagandist, and the German people had no idea what the Nazi party's motivation or agenda was. By the time Hitler was going to be elected, he single-handedly got the country out of a depression and rebuilt everything the disastrous Weimar republic had destroyed before him.
you can have any other valid reasons sports-wise, but to bring up Hitler and the two world wars is just ignorant.

There are also loads of old-age British who hate Germany for the same reason, but most of them lived through the war.

And considering there are probably more then a few people around the world who root against the US in sporting events because of our government's foreign policies, I don't know that I'd say its an attitude limited to Americans.

I doubt stud83 was directly involved in the two wars or was affected by Hitler in any way.
regardless of how many other people in the world root against the U.S. because of foreign policy, you can't continue to root against Germany using the two world wars and Hitler, this is the exact thing the Germans are trying to get over but because of people like him, it just can't happen. Good job!

Maybe, maybe not, depending on how you define being affected. I assume he has reasons for feeling strongly about it.

Personally, I have nothing against Germany myself, other than that the soccer team just isn't very fun to watch right now. The German speedskating chick was hot though.

if he does have valid reasons, he's yet to present it, if not then he shouldn't speak, becuase he did come off as ignorant.

and as for the "boring" style, its no reason to dislke them, it's just a preference, but even thats more justifiable than bringing up WWI, II and Hitler.

I just thought that that was the important part of your post in reference to how someone can not like Germany because of past politcal feelings, not anything directly affecting them.

True.

Anyways, my main point is sort of that we all have reasons, many of them totally irrational, for cheering for the teams we do. That's sports.

Nah. Here's a typical American response.

when i sat down with Bruce Arena and that bald assistant of his to watch an arsenal/spurs match.. i of course brought this up to him.. his response "it wasnt A handball" then gave me that sly grin and raised eyebrow..
something about if the ref doesnt see it, then it must not be true.
pretty classy response i guess.

Are you intentionally misreading my posts? The two wars are not the main reasons for disliking Germany. I listed 5 additional reasons, which you seem to ignore. But there are additional reasons. I don't see why I can't bring them up. After all, my grandfather's entire family was killed during the war. By Germans, too. The fact that Germany is trying to get over it - great. But hey, if a guy murders someone, then gets out of jail 20 years later and tries to resume normal life - he's still a murderer, is he not?
The bottom line is that there are many reasons for me to dislike Germany. Most of them are sports-related, some are not. To me every single reason is valid.
It's like you know - Real Madrid vs. Barca is a great rivalry. Is it just because of 2 great Spanish teams? Hell, no. It's Catalonia vs. Franco, and even though it may not be an issue now, you can ask every Catalon Barca supporter, and they would list Franco as one of the reasons for hating Real. That's just the way it goes - when you don't like certain teams, you find other reasons to support it.

Notice that it is also the original version with all three of the stanzas. None of this PC Bridage bullshit from me. That will always be the anthem for me and no-one can change that.

I didn't mention the other reasons because I didn't find anything wrong with them in particular. However it was stupid of you to bring up the two wars, Hitler and the people who elected him. i already explained why that's wrong. And I'm sympathetic towards your family, I've had family too that was killed in previous wars, but I don't hold anything against the nations that did right now because it's unethtical and ignorant.
Germans are trying to get over past events but people like you are going to keep hanging it over them, don't you think thats wrong? and i'm not talking about someone getting out of jail, because that's not what you were referring to at first, we are talking about a whole people, not one single person. Who knows though, a convict for you might just be the same as little Franzie from Frankfurt who is completely innocent and has nothing to do with any of his country's events.
