Any recommendations out there for singer songwriter's of the same style and times?

I'm largely uninitiated but do like Otis Redding and Sam Cooke.

If you like Sam Cooke, Try Josh Rouse...Any of his CD's can be gotten on Itunes or Emusic.. I use both.

Subtitlio ( newest CD, came out a few weeks out, Spanish Influenced Alt-Country, very unique, but addictive from the first listen)

and

Nashville..

You will not be dissappointed.

Matthew Good Band
...going to see him solo and acoustic on Fri[4/7], part of a 2mo. Canadian tour which happens [luckily] to stop in Buffalo.

Witnessed a great show. The venue and the crowd were crap. Which is the first time I've ever been at a concert where the crowd marginalized a good performance so badly. They need to check ********in cellphones and digicameras at the door.

No one seemed to know him [on here] before [when I posted], but I imagine some do. I think if you enjoy singer/songwriters you should definitely check out Matthew Good.

He had a Ann Coulter doll someone gave him on tour that if you pulled the string it screeched these awfully tasteless one-liners.

This is for you...

Love that album. The fact that you dropped the needle on it just warms my heart as well.

It is a great new collection of country covers -- you'd like it a lot.

Great taste. The Hot 5 Sessions are among my favorite albums. LB - since you're in the DC area - should check out HR57 on 14th Street. Open mic nights attract some of the areas best and up-and-coming Jazz musicians playing traditional standards.

Potato Head Blues with Hot Seven is on my Desert Island 10, perhaps the perfect jazz recording. Perhaps we should start a Desert Island 10 thread.
